I've already said that I think the dangers of nuclear power are overblown. We know a lot more about how to do it than we did all those years ago. The crumbling reactors remaining in the UK and US should be replaced by new, safe reactors. When did France last have a nuclear emergency?
That's the voice of pragmatism. But for the future, we need those renewable resources. Some parts of the world have geothermal energy. Lucky them. Islands have an abundant form of energy in tidal action. Taking advantage of it can be difficult, though. Nearer the equator, energy is more than abundant. Sunlight is there for the taking, and it is the most direct way we can benefit from Sol. What surprises me is that nobody has built massive solar concentrators in Africa. The infrastructure right now just isn't up to it, unfortunately. And let's not forget that power needs to be generated fairly close to where it is used, due to transmission losses. But a grid system can mitigate that somewhat. Odd, then, that wind seems to be the most prevalent renewable energy source. Of course, wind gets everywhere, even if it isn't particularly reliable. Some people say that wind isn't reliable enough - but there are totally predictable winds in many areas. |

Most of that goes on maintaining our roads, subsidising public transport, and giving medical assistance to all the people who get run over every year.
Not everything is about global warming! |

Here's a way you can cut down those CO2 emissions. I bought one of these today
----------------------------------------largely on account of this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7210354.stm ![]() You will all be pleased to know that I am championing a project to introduce desktop video conferencing at work which should reduce travel greatly and improve communications within the business That's the kind of green initiatives we can all make I'm all for reducing our impact on the planet and not having Nuclear Power is just one of those ways ![]() |

Without global warming you would never get anyone to pay the extra 2.35p in April and the extra 2.17p in October on top of the 66.15p we pay already
----------------------------------------What other excuse could they use? ![]() |

You're paying a premium for a socket adapter that only has one switch? Shouldn't that be cheaper than an adapter with individually switched sockets?
