Also, did you guys notice that more results are returned on Mondays than any other day of the week? Is this a regular occurance? 01/28/2008 1:101:23:27:35 538,206 1,461 01/27/2008 193:075:12:05:33 100,474,210 256,586 01/26/2008 186:313:01:47:11 96,423,719 254,466 01/25/2008 206:082:15:18:01 102,792,246 274,070 01/24/2008 214:332:10:21:02 107,400,612 282,734 01/23/2008 214:135:12:30:51 106,826,292 286,849 01/22/2008 213:208:21:16:36 106,643,370 288,547 01/21/2008 219:167:07:46:07 110,422,520 285,151 01/20/2008 191:333:12:07:27 99,201,058 258,671 01/19/2008 189:349:02:40:23 97,648,859 261,559 01/18/2008 212:240:22:49:22 106,510,553 284,787 01/17/2008 211:255:00:30:18 104,770,899 281,484 01/16/2008 208:347:07:11:59 102,632,508 279,114 01/15/2008 212:218:21:03:33 104,584,545 291,749 01/14/2008 227:345:09:31:05 114,594,975 320,639 01/13/2008 204:039:06:31:54 105,191,296 292,474 01/12/2008 196:177:10:17:15 101,698,901 271,373 01/11/2008 211:048:04:48:08 105,963,919 272,710 01/10/2008 202:150:12:03:27 101,189,079 266,165 01/09/2008 192:222:17:46:00 95,373,832 276,946 01/08/2008 201:156:05:13:03 98,257,471 308,582 01/07/2008 212:096:11:45:32 105,254,890 325,917 Jonathan, I've tried to see and follow trends like that in the past but there seems to be too many factors to sort out. Plus, the trends have a nasty habit of changing on us. Not long ago, Tuesdays were the big points days of the week and we also had regular, sizable drop offs on the weekends. Not so much that way anymore. I leave the trending to the prognosticating gurus and focus on MOT. |

Need to work on some more team challenges here (handicapped of course) as well. Handicapped, not necessarily. I know you had considered handicapping for our challenge, but I see some of your members have appeared out of the woodwork and your numbers are getting better. So much so, you had a gain on us today for the first time since the start. The whole key was to get some of the no-shows to get back on the wagon. Nicely done. ![]() I also see Dataman is back to his previous daily numbers (or nearly). There was definitely a hole there for a couple of days when he was AWOL. ![]() |

There was definitely a hole there for a couple of days when he was AWOL. ![]() What I liked about a challenge between our two teams was that we looked like pretty close matches. If you challenge a team that routinely is putting up 400K points a day, neither of us would stand a chance of winning such a challenge. Now if you "handicap" it based on what each team has done over say the past 60 days, then each team has a way to easily adjust their score to make a fair comparasion with the other team. There are some other teams we could challenge without a handicap but virtually none of them have a team thread here. As for our challenge, I'd say it's a resounding success regardless of who "wins". I think we've both pick things up a bit, not without the normal bumps and potholes. Niteowl's vacation that had some writing things off turned into a non-event (so far, a Windows Update or a network outage could change that). That's part of the fun it looks like with a challenge. It IS unpredictable. Thanks Blizzie for the suggestion! |

Dataman, if you like POEM (it's pretty new) and are interested in other related/similar projects, try TANPAKU, malariacontrol.net, Spinhenge and Rosetta if you haven't already. Yes, I've been there and everywhere else I think. Some do not interest me ... some don't even make sense to me. ( ![]() Blizzie looks so cute. Isn't he? Good cruncher too!! ![]() when he was AWOL. Didn't know I needed permission. ![]() Made it to #997 in WCG results returned this morning. Hey, anyone remeber to exact dimentions for a "cubit"? I'm getting out the plans for the arc. Still raining here. ![]() ![]() |

Made it to #997 in WCG results returned this morning. Hey, anyone remeber to exact dimentions for a "cubit"? I'm getting out the plans for the arc. Still raining here. ![]() Congrats on breaking through the #1000 barrier! I remember getting excited a couple weeks ago when I broke through #2000 on points. As I recall, a cubit is the length from your elbow to the tip of your extended fingers. From what I've read, you may be just a bit late in getting started on your ark! Here in the Chicago area, we are enjoying what feels like balmy weather after last week's deep freeze (several nites down to -4° F or -20° C). At this moment, it is 45° F (7° C) at noon and it should rise a bit more this afternoon. How is Zelda doing? Cedric has been doing a good job cleaning up after me, although I think I am going to have to relocate his home base as he has developed an annoying habit of getting himself fenced into a corner basicly running in a small triangle under a bookcase blocked in by the wall, legs of the bookcase and the infrared wall set up by the charger. I have to power off the charger for him to escape and run free. A slight defect in the robotics code, I think, when he can get into an area and not get himself out. |

I am not in favor of handicapping--winning is nice but look at all the new people we met--maybe there is another way I understand Gerald. I agree as well. It's been nice getting to know more of the other crunchers around here. Some folks get into the competitive part of it too so they want to see that there's a fair chance of "winning". If that motivates them to do some more crunching than usual, seems like a good thing since more crunching is good no matter how you look at it. I guess if I got the chance to play a round one-on-one with Tiger Woods, I'd like a chance to stand a chance. ![]() |
