Re: Monster Mash Momentum: Pepe pushes past pinnical point!

I ordered a new machine for kids today.
One of the P4/1.5Ghz/768MB systems died, so a Dual Core AMD 2.2Ghz/2GB/400GB machine is going on that desk.
For $249 I thought it was decent enough for them and their MySpace. LOL

Where did you get it?

http://www.tigerdirect.com
It's a refurbished Emachine with memory card reader and DVD burner.
I think the kids will like it.
I get a lot of stuff from Tiger Direct. Overall, they have been good over the 12 years or so I have used them.
As I remember, the first I ever got there was parts for a P2-450 with 256MB RAM/3GB HDD/8MB PCI Video. I think I still have it here (on it's third MB/same CPU), but haven't booted it in a couple years. As I remember, I had gotten my W95 beta tester award CD and wanted a 'powerful' system to put it on. The 486-66/64MB system just wasn't what I wanted with that 'resource hog' OS! LOL

My electric bill has gotten outrageous also.
Over $500 last month.... that incoming dual core may help with results per KWH, but I doubt it will use less electricity than the P4.
I have all machines on LCD displays now instead of CRT, but electric rates keep going up up up...

BTW: It looks like I am half a century old now...

Re: Monster Mash Momentum: Pepe pushes past pinnical point!

I just bought 3 20" LCDs to replace my 2 19" and 1 17" CRT at home. They are only on when I am using them, so power consumption for these will help some on the electric bill, but not that much.

I have found that the LCDs use less than half the energy of a CRT.
It's a good investment either way, they take up less space, run cooler and usually provide a better view (especially at an angle).
