Something was changed for people running the app_info file to run multiple wu (it does not work now). All 5 of my gpu machines are dry. Since the app_info is not officially supported, I guess we are out of luck for now.

just woundering if the double up of hcc1 wu's will count as 2 or stay at 1 for stat purposes. i assume it will stay at 1 due to extra programing involved by our hard working techs...(results returned)

Since the app_info is not officially supported, I guess we are out of luck for now. It does work. Have 8 on one and 10 on the other since last night. Detach/ re attach WCG. You will lose app file if you don't move it before detaching.

If you are using a customized version of app_info, I'm not sure what the consequences are of releasing a new application to the mix. Customized app_info is not officially supported. From my initial inspection it looks like version 7.05 is looking good for release, which might help people who are makng changes to their app_info file. Again, I need to do a more detailed analysis of the results.
Thanks, -Uplinger |

This will decrease the results completed per day by half once all the single image work units are complete. This will help decrease the load on the database as well as the file system. The noon production numbers do not suggest that the HCC supply was torqued off. *in fact* uplinger emphasized that the beta test included to verify the backward compatibility of 6.56 and 7.05, so they would not have to stop the supply. So, there's no explanation why your comp ran out of work, but this beta [of about 10,000 units] is not the reason. *IN FACT* they did stop the suply and now I am unable to get the app_info file to work on my 2x5870 box, on my 6970 box the app_info seams to work but the strange thing is that the my app_info on that box only include the wcg_beta3_img_7.05_windows_intel_x86_ati_hcc1 application but seams to be crunching using the wcg_hcc1_img_6.56_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1 application ??? ![]() |

In fact the supply did not stop. The app_info file is not supported by WCG but by the users. You need to read the discussions in the Beta Test Support Forum to understand what your problem really is.

Fact IS that some of us do use the app_info file and it should be known by the staff unless they are blind and the project benefit on it because it result in that much more work is done than if the app_info file is not used. At least the staff should announce in this forum that a new application will be released BEFORE they actually release the new application. |

At least the staff should announce in this forum that a new application will be released BEFORE they actually release the new application. This was frustrating for many of us, however I don't blame the WCG staff. We have known for a long time that they don't preannounce the release of Betas. This has been a learning experience, and it should be obvious to us all by now that if we want to use an app_info file that we need to deselect Betas from the profile of the crunchers using the app_info file. |

Simplex0,
I am sorry that releasing a new application and version in beta caused your app_info file to cause your machine to run dry. This was not the intent of releasing a test for enhancing the application. As said before our stance on customizing app_info is not officially supported at this time. My personal experience with modifying the file is basically non-existant. Users modifying the app_info file is something new to the World Community Grid environment so it will be a learning curve for us on our end. Also, generally on releasing an application we do not post about it before it happens. This is because there are things on the backside or other priorities that could change the release schedule and version. We mostly announce after something has been released as we know it is completed. We are going to work on releasing 7.05 to production today. But again, if something pops up and that number changes, we'll let everyone know in the application release forum post. Thanks, -Uplinger |
