Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

I'd thought about buying a new (quite expensive) GPU card exclusively for this project (or othe WCG GPU projects if there will be some more in future?), I won't need it elsehere. Does this make sense regarding the status of this project? To invest >100€ for some weeks/months would be too much...

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

jochrupp,

Yes and no. I just bought two HD 7770s for this project (in addition to GTX 560's that I have dedicated to Folding@home). However, I have recognized for months that this project won't last that long once the GPUs get going on it; probably less than six months. But my other cards are CUDA cards, and I wanted something more suitable for OpenCL, for various other projects that will probably use that at some point. As a backup project, I use POEM, which runs well on these cards also.

So I would say yes, it is for me, but be prepared to find other projects for when this one goes away.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

I can't imagine the HCC GPU project will last too long with this kind of throughput. Any estimates as to how long it could take? Just looking for a ballpark figure.

At the current rate, adjusted for new GPU speed, factoring in seasonal changes, I predict it will last until we have done all the wu's. devilish

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

And the second full day completed and instead of > 500,000 results validated we got a little more biggrin
10/13/2012 0:065:06:44:13 664,139 2,934
10/12/2012 43:018:02:16:52 163,379,327 711,441
10/11/2012 40:317:16:43:36 106,993,777 463,855
10/10/2012 38:236:09:38:35 54,282,490 227,808
10/09/2012 39:041:15:19:44 52,148,741 225,143
Things are going so fast now that in the 6 minute spill window, cut off time of day statistics at 00:00 UTC and snapshot time at 00:06 UTC, 2,934 results validated.

Mean run time of CPU+GPU has now dropped from 1.52 to 0.53 hours (The math-boffins can calculate how much the GPU share was from result totals and mean time change ;>).

Way to go WCG volunteers, and thanks for adding more run time years on the go ['bout 5].

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

The noon extrapolator is suggesting a day production of 770K+, a project record. That''s what you get with all the maturing tips, tweaks, workarounds and knreed upping of the "In Progress" quota allowed to be in a device. smile

Ain't stopping nowhere yet... this rocket has more stages than a Saturn 5.

Times 2, though it's Friday, would make it 830K results. The dashboard will throw this aside as an outlier for completion date crystal ball prediction, but it's for sure way less than a year now [on the known unknown] :P

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

Did we do 848K results yesterday, another day on day record, this Saturday morning is suggesting that will be beat too. Heading for 860K. http://bit.ly/WCGHCC
