Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Remember to keep an eye on the estimated completion date of all the projects - especially this, as currently, this is expected to finish first...

Thus, if you're wanting Gold, consider setting this project for exclusive crunching biggrin

Just think how miffed you'll feel if you're only a few hours/days away from Gold and all the work has run dry...

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I'm happy to announce I finally received a Bronze yesterday for Rice! Next up is a Bronze for DDDT, which I hope will come later today, and then Bronze for CEP.

Slowly collecting medals!!

Got Bronze for DDDT today, as I hoped!! Now just need CEP to start up again so I can get that Bronze, and I'll start working on Silver medals for everyone! (except faah, since I have gold there already) biggrin

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Hi Bergie72,

I know and can understand why you're collecting your badges in an orderly fashion - all bronze, then all silver & finally, all gold, although I'd strongly suggest you also take into consideration the estimated completion dates... After all, by following the path that you're going down, there is a strong possibility (depending on your available computer processing power of course), that you may miss out on Gold for a project or two...

Thus, I'd really be tempted to go for Gold in this order;
NRftW (estimated to complete in Sept. this year),
DDD-T (Mar 2010)
CEP (Dec 2010)
HPF2 (Dec 2011)
HCC (2013)

Also, you've got to take into consideration any other projects that may come online - i.e., it's looking as though we could well have HCMD2 up and running very shortly...

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Thanks for the advice gb. My first goal was just to get a medal in the projects that are still open, so all I need is a Bronze in CEP and I'll be happy. I actually started out with the ones that were nearest and dearest, I guess. FAAH and HCC got the most time, and have crunched the most WU, because of losing friends and family to both of these diseases.

However, now that I know that there are est. completion dates, I may have to change my long-term goals a little bit. I have CEP and Rice clicked right now, and running on 3 machines (2 with dual-cores), so I'm hoping to see the results shoot up for both of those.

I'll definitely be checking the forums for more updates and tidbits on progress and completion tho. I can't believe I've been running WCG for over 3 years and never visited the forums before last month!

And you should remember the very real possibility that there might be additional badges for higher levels of crunching.

True - although for those with only limited 'crunching power' (I've only got the one machine, albeit with a dual core processor), reaching Gold in all the available projects is certainly my first realistic goal. Anything above and beyond (of which, I've currently got HPF & and FA@H sitting at over 1 years worth of processing each), is a bonus biggrin

Each and every 'cruncher' has different priorities and goals to reach for, and by them being here, even if they only contribute very little (may be not even enough to reach any "significant" badge level (i.e. Silver or Gold), deserves a round of applause in my view applause

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

Just got my Silver for Rice!! Switching over to HCC and HPF2 for a bit since I should be close to getting silver for both those projects. Still keeping CEP clicked for when those WUs start flowing tho, just in case.

Happy crunching all -- and thanks again for all the sage advise!!

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I've got a gold coming my way when my current NRW units finish crunching and get validated.
Now i'm going to turn all my bronze to gold...

rose Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I am still working on the badge for Beta, but I think that will take an extremely long time. I am working toward the gold for HFCC right now. I decided to concentrate adding time to each project to reach over a year on each. After that, I am not sure exactly what direction I will take, but that is the fun of it all.

I would like to see a project related to the generation of electricity without using rotors or blades or other moving parts. I would also like to see something related to portable storage such as the fuel cell.

I do have a question if someone has the answer. Does anyone know if AfricanClimate@Home will ever restart?
