All my dedicated HCC, but get other work boxes are filling up with other project WUs.These are jumping line with an earlier return deadline than previously downloaded HCC work.Is there no HCC available?

HCC has work until 2013!
But all the projects are subject to occasional gaps, planned and unplanned. Situations like this are exactly what the "alternate work" feature exists for. If this is anything more than a temporary shortage, you can expect to see something in "Known Issues" soon. Otherwise, just keep crunching. |

Gaps or whatever. My HCC machines are doing other work while my que still has plenty of HCC.
Rice and protein that just came in are running ahead of HCC that have been waiting.I'll just abort them. What a waste. |

Why would you abort them?
You signed up for other projects if HCC is unavailable. There should be no need to abort anything. |

Well my post asked if HCC work is unavailable.I don't care if I get alternate work when HCC is unavailable.
I'm asking. Why am I'm getting alternate work that gets higher priority than the work that I specified first.I'll run the alternates but not until my que of specified work has been exhausted first. |

Hi RAMMIE,
----------------------------------------As laid out, there is work for HCC to 2013, but if there is momentarily not a batch in the work generator when calling for work, and you have the 'alternate' option on, you'd get that. I'm guessing on your configuration, but if you set a buffer size of 1 day on e.g. a quad you'd have about 16 HCC jobs in a queue, but when HCC jobs are completed and a backfill is requested, you'd get anything available if you chose to. So you could still have HCC work. The client is not designed to fully deplete a particular project, unless you set the 'do not fetch work'. In fact it's completely ignorant of the SUB-projects of any grid. It calls and the servers give what's on hand per the website device profile or the "My Projects" selection. If your buffer is in the < 24 hours range you could get rush jobs of HCC or any other 'alternate' project, IF there is no HCC work at the call moment. All depends if you are for instance a 24/7 cruncher. Hope this explains it why it could happen. cheers

Rammie,
I'm looking at your records. One point of confusion is that if you set something at 'My Projects' and save it, it will change your project selections at the Device Profile level. Conversely, if you set something on My Projects, but you then go change it at the Device Profile level, the settings at the Device Profile will override any My Projects settings. At the My Projects level, you have FightAIDS@Home and Help Conquer Cancer selected. On your Device Profile - 'Default' setting you have FightAIDS@Home selected. On your Device Profile -'home' setting you have Help Conquer Cancer selected. On your Device Profile - 'work' setting you have both FightAIDS@Home and Help Conquer Cancer selected For all the settings you have the box 'If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, send me work from another project'. You have your devices split between being assigned to the profile Default and the profile home. What you should see happening is those devices assigned to Default are getting almost exclusively FightAIDS@Home work. Those devices assigned to home should be getting almost exclusively Help Conquer Cancer. I see that you currently have 2513 results assigned to your computer (in-progress) and only 5 of those are from projects other than FightAIDS@Home or Help Conquer Cancer. If you wish to spend the majority of your time crunching for Help Conquer Cancer, then I would recommend that you go to My Projects and select only Help Conquer Cancer. It is good to keep the "'If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, send me work from another project" box checked for the occasional lack of work for the project (a temp condition only! as Sekerob noted, we have tons of work for the project). Save the screen and all your device profiles will be updated. Going forward from there you should pretty much only get work for Help Conquer Cancer. |

I have chosen only to crunch "Help Conquer Cancer". ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at Sep 18, 2008 10:07:35 PM] |
