Looks like the problem is close to being resolved.

Got one dedicated dual core HCC client doing about 7-8 jobs a day and all through this never saw a single 'no work', but once just yesterday night

Got an alternate WCG humanitarian crunch job instead. We'd like to hear after the fchk is finished and all projects go full again (except DDDT), if HCC is still not provided in sufficient quantities.

Just about ½ hour ago, yet another non-HCC unit:
----------------------------------------Sun 21 Sep 2008 02:15:38 PM EDT|World Community Grid|Message from server: No work is available for Help Conquer Cancer Last HCC Unit on this PC (which cranks out about 1 HCC unit every 100 minutes): Fri 19 Sep 2008 07:49:57 PM EDT|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 1 new tasks For personal reasons (family/friends), I would really much prefer to Help Conquer Cancer. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by goedel at Sep 21, 2008 7:00:21 PM] |

For some reasons i do not want to participate in another WCG projects beside HCC. So several of my HCC-dedicated boxes were just idling for days.
----------------------------------------All what i ask HCC administrators, is to post some information like "Yes there is a problem and it will be resolved on __date__", so people could plan their CPU usage. That is responsibility and respect to volunteers. The day after WUs disappeared and i noticed that in logs, i looked here at HCC forum and found nothing. Thank you for understanding! Also thanks for running HCC! |

I'm having similar problems today. I'm signed up for just HCC and DDDT on my linux machine, and Proteome and Rice WUs were just delivered in the last two hours. An absence of DDDT has been explained in another post. HCC must have an outstanding problem.

Here is the verbatim post by knreed from yesterday:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost?post=185307 Re: Temporary FAAH project slow down One of the uses of the storage that we are currently working on (see Viktors post above) is that it is the staging area for new workunits for FightAIDS@Home, Help Conquer Cancer and Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together. Until we can get this storage back online (the disks are currently re-syncing and being scanned - unfortunately this could take over 12 hours), we cannot load in new work for those projects. At this time, FightAIDS@Home and Help Conquer Cancer have sent out all the workunits that had been loaded into the grid. Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together will reach that point in the next couple of hours. We are still able to load work for Human Proteome Folding - Phase II and Nutritious Rice for the World so we will keep plenty of work loaded for those projects. We appreciate your patience and we are doing what we can to get the work flowing for all projects as quickly as possible. Boils down that the RAID fail effects 3 sciences, leaving HPF2 and RICE for the moment. We all deeply regret the continuation of the work unavailability. For those that like to focus on a specific project I'd suggest to increase the Additional Buffer size in the local preferences once service resumes. E.g. maintaining 3 or 4 days cache is a length of time that most all problems are resolved of this magnitude, Murphy and his brethren having their annual meeting this last few days ![]()

Above Bolded by me. And if knreed or someone would have looked at all my results,he would have seen 100 rice and protein WUs aborted by me before his reply. Then I took his advice and unchecked what he said and haven't recieved new work on any of my HCC machines since. It seems that every time there is a hiccup, some of the CA's just give canned, flippant or uniformed answers. This just delays resolving the issue and alienates the user base. As Community Advisors, we tend to assume that members want to work through any problems, and get the most work done.
Reviewing the answers given in this thread, I don't think they can be more clear. a) Alternative work is intended for these situations. If you never want alternative work, don't opt to receive it. b) Check the Known Issues forum for major issues. The techs update the thread until the issue is resolved. c) Stay patient and keep your sense of humour while waiting for problems to be fixed. If you didn't opt for alternative work, then running dry is a risk you choose to take. |

As a volunteer I would tend to assume that the CAs,techs and project managers would be on top of these situations before it takes two pages of posts that show a problem. |

We are donating our cpu cycles to WCG. If they do not have the specific work that you want, you get to wait until the project is able to make the request of using your computer. If there is a problem on the server end, it is not up to us to demand it be fixed, only that we can point out the problem to the ever helpful CA and techs. They are fully aware that the are not sending out WU.
