Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

I also have a couple of these WUs (AMD quad). Here is an example:
E000024_ 688A_ 000340014_ 2-- Valid 12/13/08 06:58:29 12/13/08 18:27:30 4.81 82.9 / 82.9
E000024_ 688A_ 000340014_ 1-- Error 12/13/08 06:42:10 12/13/08 06:52:26 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
E000024_ 688A_ 000340014_ 0-- Valid 12/13/08 06:41:30 12/14/08 02:19:34 17.48 285.5 / 82.9 <- mine

The result log is:
<core_client_version>6.2.28</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
Calling initGraphics()
INFO: No state to restore. Start from the beginning.
####Message = NORMAL STOP
called boinc_finish

</stderr_txt>
]]>

Maybe the other user's calculation ended with the famous "Failed to open either source or destination files" error. These seem not to be validated correctly - maybe just a subset of the results is used for the validation.

But I also realized another issue: since batch 25 the claimed credits seem to have been increased significantly. Here two examples:
E000025_ 189A_ 00034c011_ 1-- In Progress 12/13/08 10:12:24 12/20/08 10:12:24 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
E000025_ 189A_ 00034c011_ 0-- Pending Validation 12/13/08 10:09:59 12/14/08 10:24:59 23.32 904.2 / 0.0 <- mine

E000027_ 824A_ 00040900q_ 1-- Pending Validation 12/14/08 04:31:14 12/14/08 12:43:35 4.58 177.5 / 0.0 <- mine
E000027_ 824A_ 00040900q_ 0-- In Progress 12/14/08 04:24:53 12/21/08 04:24:53 0.00 0.0 / 0.0

I don't mind the points though biggrin - just hope I really get them.

cheers

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

I keep wondering about the points also

i have lots of jobs pending validation some of them are 35+ hour runtimes

yes i like points and the hours and such but im more intrested in the results being good and helping the projects

hopefully they will all validate fine but who will know

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

I'm seeing the same thing on my quad-core gateway. CPU fan is really cranking up, actual time according to the client is 48-50 hours per work unit, but I'm only receiving 10-25 hours credit on the web page.

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

The time given for unstarted work is an estimate only. The final time shown on the client for completed work should match the website.

Uncertainty in the actual times for CEP means that the estimates are often misleading. The time estimation algorithm simply can't predict what is essentially random.

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

I have same problem..
E000026_ 805A_ 00035f00f_ 0-- Valid 12/13/08 21:25:23 12/14/08 17:34:53 2.94 39.7 / 39.7
E000026_ 805A_ 00035f00f_ 1-- Valid 12/13/08 21:24:12 12/16/08 05:39:25 48.34 575.2 / 39.7

48,34 hours vs. 2,94? The task run with "High priority" for 2 days.. And then 39,7 points?
Why is this happening?

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

jkislenko,

Somehow the short one was not flagged as invalid. It's hoped to get fixed with Beta 6.23.

Maybe the techs will run an analysis and award corrective credit for those falling victim to this bug.

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

Yes, some folk do have turbo thrusters ;>)

astrolab, the term "time out" in my book means the science quits due excess runtime (say 6 times or 10 times more than the flops value stored in a task header)

Are you from the French parts of Canada as my Italian Inglese seems not to be compatible with yours at times :D and many others laughing

Re: big difference in run times/credit claims

I had two WU start and finish within 1 hour of each other on a Dual Core AMD Turion running Vista 64.

WU 1
1st WU is mine
E000025_ 366A_ 00034h004_ 1-- Valid 12/13/08 11:34:07 12/16/08 14:31:39 37.76 440.7 / 432.1
E000025_ 366A_ 00034h004_ 0-- Valid 12/13/08 11:29:24 12/15/08 18:40:06 45.08 423.6 / 432.1

WU 2
1st WU is also mine
E000025_ 358A_ 00034g012_ 0-- Valid 12/13/08 11:26:55 12/16/08 14:31:39 37.19 434.1 / 32.8
E000025_ 358A_ 00034g012_ 1-- Valid 12/13/08 11:23:34 12/15/08 18:36:57 4.85 32.8 / 32.8

32.8 points for 37 hours! crying

I have also run numerous CEP WU on Q6600 with all four cores running CEP but have not had anything come back as low as the WU above.
