Same problems.

Just returned to WCG with 3 computers. I seem to be having the same or similar problem with the following Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 units.

The following units all failed within minutes of startup.

md734_ 00060_ 0-- Natalie Error 12/17/08 00:40:56 12/17/08 00:43:18 0.02 0.4 / 0.0
md734_ 00059_ 17-- Natalie Error 12/17/08 00:40:56 12/17/08 00:43:18 0.02 0.4 / 0.0
md733_ 00066_ 8-- Natalie Error 12/17/08 00:40:56 12/17/08 00:44:28 0.02 0.4 / 0.0
md734_ 00049_ 1-- Natalie Error 12/17/08 00:39:47 12/17/08 00:43:18 0.02 0.4 / 0.0

The error for all of them is:
<core_client_version>6.2.19</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
ERROR:: Exit at: .\dock_structure.cc line:401

</stderr_txt>
]]>

Computer is a Core i7 940 (2.93ghz) running Windows Vista Home Premium 64. Computer is not over clocked and has 6 gigs RAM and appears to be stable with temperatures and all other functioning.

I have had 3 units complete successfully on "Help Conquer Cancer" and have two others on "Human Proteome Folding" that appear to be crunching successfully. One at 6:37 hrs and 78% and another at 1:54 hrs and 20.5%. (Hyperthreading is on so am simultaneously crunching 8 work units on 4 cores) Other units from Fighting Aids and Help Conquer Cancer all appear to be fine.

Re: Same problems.

Hi and welcome back

Regrettably I've been forced to untick HPF2 from the project profile to which my Vista quad is attached. They all fail within 2 minutes. A Beta test with version 6.04 and 6.05 was conducted but they could not fix this. Why? It's a rare thing and only seems to happen some Vista clients. When a fix? Maybe next year after the hosting move.

WCG is fortunate to be able to reshuffle, so I do a little more of the others sub-projects and the others members who have success do a little more of HPF2 so the project keeps moving in good speed.

Sorry.

Re: Same problems.

Interestingly, all the units that erred so far are from the md733 or md734 series. Here are two more. However the same computer "Natalie" completed pending validation two units from the md735 series. My other 2 computers, a Core2Duo iMac and a CoreDuo Mac Mini, have had no errors. Natalie has completed multiple work units from other projects without error. Maybe it is the md733 and md734 units that need to be looked at closer. Computer "Angel" did complete an md734 unit but it is a Mac Mini core duo 1.66 processor, not a quad and not Vista OS.

At least the errors occur within a minute of starting, and don't waste a lot of computer time. Would hate to have to opt out of the entire project because of one computer. Like you said, at least there are other project options.

ERRORS

Hi Shaktai,

If there will not popup another solution, you can consider to select another profile to your unwilling HPF2-PC.
You can create up to 4 profiles. In every profile you can select the projects you want.
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do

After creating you can select the profile to the desired device:
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do

Cheers

Thanks. Did figure that out earlier and setup a profile just for the Core i7 box so that I can opt out. Will go ahead and work the units in queue, since some of them do complete, but will then be able to work HPF2 on my macs and everything else on the Core i7 box.

Appreciate the response and recommendation though. Hopefully they can get this fixed one of these days.

Re: Same problems.

Well, I had one more unit fail on the same box with the exact same error (7 total) and it was different group.

md796_ 00001_ 12-- Natalie Error 12/17/08 16:56:41 12/18/08 06:55:50 0.02 0.3 / 0.0.

On the flip side though I have received 31 HPF2 units total on the core i7 computer (natalie). 8 have validated, 3 have completed and are pending validation and 13 more are in progress, none of which appear to be from the bad groups, so think I'll stick with the project for a while after all. The error rate is less then 25% and the bad ones error within the first minute or two so not losing a lot of crunch time. Besides I'm getting close to a bronze badge on this project between all three of my computers. smile

Re: Same problems.

OK, fine. It's interesting to know if these WUs fail more or less often with this new processor or if it is just the same as with the older ones.

However, if it becomes too difficult to bear with them do not forget that you can remove HPF2 from your selection. From the project stats there are still many devices able to return results for this project, so that would not be a problem for WCG or for the project.

Sorry for the trouble. Jean.

Re: Same problems.

It's not the i7 I have had the exact came problem on a QX9650 for about a month. All work from WCG is OK, except Human Proteome Folding II. Tasks fail within 2 minutes with "Computation error" - Output file me340.... absent.

The same does not happen on my other machines, which are all older PCs.

Re: Same problems.

I have recived this WU
Project Name: Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2
Created: 1/8/09
Name: me322_00029
Minimum Quorum: 15
Initial Replication: 19

The large number of copies sent out for this workunit is due to the unique nature of this project.
We encourage you to read the FAQs about this project for more information.

18.01.2009 05:52:51|World Community Grid|Task me322_00029_11 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
18.01.2009 05:52:51|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
18.01.2009 05:53:32|World Community Grid|Computation for task me322_00029_11 finished
18.01.2009 05:53:32|World Community Grid|Output file me322_00029_11_0 for task me322_00029_11 absent

The client spec:
17.01.2009 17:43:38||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13]

17.01.2009 17:43:38||Memory: 2.00 GB physical, 4.22 GB virtual

This is the first WU that came out with an error from this client.

Is this relevant information for anyone? confused

Re: Same problems.

Hi kskjold,
Missing output files are a puzzle. The main question is whether it happens occasionally or frequently. If frequently, then we try to look carefully at the software environment. Vista and Linux can have special problems with permissions that will cause this problem to be a regular event.
