Technical Paper Available

A technical paper, “Celebrating Diversity in Volunteer Computing” by David P. Anderson of Berkeley and Kevin Reed of WCG, has been announced on the BOINC web site and is available here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/boinc_papers/hicss_08/hicss_08.pdf

The “Diversity” in the title refers to the diversity of projects available on WCG and the diversity of WCG members’ computers available to work on tasks for these projects. The introductory sections would be of interest to all WCG members. The remainder of the paper is a discussion of the scheduling algorithms in BOINC and on WCG’s servers to effectively match the work with the computers available to do the work. Anyone who has studied or worked on scheduling problems will find this description fascinating.

Congratulations to Kevin for his fine contributions to WCG and to the literature.
