Hi Sgt Joe
----------------------------------------That's correct but if Dallas Texas is at the same latitude as the Sahara then it shouldn't be a surprise, especially at this time of year, that it might turn out to be extremely hot as the inclination to the Sun's rays is the same As for me up here in the UK which if the planet was flipped over we would be Tierra del Fuego (!!) then all I can say is thank you for the Gulf Stream ![]() Today we are are warmed by winds from the Azores. Most of the year it's been winds from around about Iceland. While Central USA was briefly roasting Northern Europe this year has been relatively cold. Don't get taken in by the extremes - there are always extremes Right between those two extremes is ... perfectly normal ![]() Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Aug 18, 2012 10:49:22 PM] |

Here in southeastern Iowa we have had a couple of good rains after almost no precipitation for the 10 weeks before that. It's ironic that the weeds have all revived completely but crops and lawns are not coming back nearly as well. The record-setting hot and dry summer, with major losses of corn and soybean crops, will impact food prices all over the world.

with major losses of corn and soybean crops, will impact food prices all over the world. It already is. I pay over $10/50lbs for both cracked corn and egg mash(mostly soybean meal). And it might get worse. That's correct but if Dallas Texas is at the same latitude as the Sahara then it shouldn't be a surprise, especially at this time of year, that it might turn out to be extremely hot as the inclination to the Sun's rays is the same If they have more summers like the recent ones it may start to look like the Sahara there also. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

What had really broken was the secondary rubber sealing in the tap... just fallen apart into little grains. Must have been really old or the hot weather got to it so it died prematurely. Cheers Probably a combination of hot & age. We went for an [electric] cycle tour, practically zero carbon footprint, lithium-ion batteries charged from guaranteed green power [virtual but it's supposed to come from one of the big solar panel farms]... out at 8:30AM, in at 15:00, 65km, leisuring here and there amongst some millennium old ruins or a shaded bar terrace. All the way scorchio [we still burned skin regardless of the rich suncream application], but had a nice cooling breeze [rapid sweet evaporation], the bonus when doing about 17 miles/hr. As always, no matter what direction, headwind :D Forecast through end of the month, bone-dry and blue skies. It's Sunday, but we saw tractors rushing back and forth up and down the vineyards. Not sure if the end of the month we'll here of grapes or raisins. Certainly there could not be a complaint about the sugar content. Hasta la pasta |

Stationed down there for 10 years and seemed about every 5 years the extreme hot weather would occure. Miserable during those times.

Woohoo, our Sunday prediction
![]() Till then, non stop ![]() Seems to world is running hot overall these months. You need a magnifier now to find any snow on the Northern Hemisphere outside of Greenland [I know a patch, just 3 hours climb from here, at about 2600 meter altitude... it sits in a never sun exposed nook] |

Woohoo, our Sunday prediction ![]() Till then, non stop ![]() Seems to world is running hot overall these months. You need a magnifier now to find any snow on the Northern Hemisphere outside of Greenland [I know a patch, just 3 hours climb from here, at about 2600 meter altitude... it sits in a never sun exposed nook] This I posted on August 22. What happened, most amazing, was exactly that... the weather turned at 13:00 from suffocating hot, increasing strong hot winds from the north [yes], and eventual cloud forming, thunder, and a little rain [sadly, just a little]. By 17:30 it was blue skies again, but appreciably cooler [this night will be pleasant]. Forecast for the next 5 days... as before the intermezzo... 31-34C through Friday, with a promise of a new event on September 1, which is here often like the flick of a switch normal, the Autumn season kick. Last year it did not start until the calendaric autumn.. September 23. The workers on the adjacent hills have been plowing and re-plowing the olive orchards like there's no tomorrow. Stupid, as doing that only helps to loose lots of soil humidity and then when the deluges come on plunge down on the bone dry hillsides... big sludge on the country roads. Maybe they read a different weather forecast site, or just stick to the old wisdoms of watching birds and reading clouds [none but for this afternoon].
