Have a great weekend all................
Friends Without Faces by Thomas Teague We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens, We all have to wonder, what this possibly means. With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze, Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze. We chat with each other, we type all our woes, Small groups we do form, and gang up on our foes. We wait for somebody, to type out our name, We want recognition, but it is always the same. We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt, In IMs we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt. We do form friendships - but - why we don't know, But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow. Why is it on screen, we can be so bold, Telling our secrets, that have never been told. Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind, With those we can't see, as though we were blind. The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell. We all have our problems, and need someone to tell. We can't tell "real" people, but tell someone we must, So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust. Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains, They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names. Old Sage ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Den!! well what can we say? your the Beano, Dandy, Boys Own & Sunday Times all rolled into one
----------------------------------------*********************** I'm thinking the emphasis is on the comics and while I know my jottings are not in the TES, Spectator, Private Eye or that pink one's realm. I would have liked to be included in a bracket that encompassed NME, Variety,The Stage,Aeronautics Hand book , Astrophysics weekly, Nuclear physics Journal. H2O swimming Mag ,Farmer & stock breeder If it has to have Comics Then the Eagle, Wizard & Hot-spur ,have to have the Beano with Me being Dennis I suppose. Tony also mentioned York in a down beat way ![]() "York, peacefull?, it's a ruddy cemetery with lights" Colin Crompton Did put downs of Morecambe in similar way; "Morecambe.......it's like Stockport on sea,........ when they die in Morecambe they don't bury them......they prop 'em up in a bus shelter......with a bingo ticket in their hand!" Tuesday's the big day. They all turn out to watch the traffic lights change! .......11 o'clock it is if you don't want to miss it.".... Then they all go round to the butcher's to watch the bacon slicer ************************** The organ still plays but no one visits The Winter gardens anymore Theres a working party trying to refurbish the place .This is where you could have seen ShaWaddy Waddy The Seekers .Derek Batey with Monica Rose in the Mr& Mrs show ![]() This summer looks to be the quietest yet, a few hardy pensioners still turn out but they are all dying off. The desperate, hopeless inhabitants roam the streets, their faces pounded by the harsh sea wind. It's falling apart is Morecambe. But the organ still plays, the wurlitzer still echoes through the air, its all beautifully sad. Gypsy Sarah stands on the front telling fortunes Pictures of long passed stars of the 1950's adorn her stall Thats the Original Gypsy Sarah BTW. Those seeking titillation might wander up the road to stand outside Bare Women's institute only to be disappointed because the building is just the W.I. situated in Bare village. Should you then in despair take a walk to Half moon bay again to discover that no actual Mooning goes on in Heysham, Half or Full Mooning. The walk might have made you thirsty so you can indulge in a glass of Nettle beer and if you enjoy the taste heres how you make it 900g (2lb) Young Nettle Tops 4.5lt (8 pints) Water 450g (1lb) Demerara Sugar 2 Lemons 25g (1 oz) Cream of Tartar 15g (½oz) Brewers or Wine Yeast Wash and drain the nettles. Finely peel the lemons, removing only the outer waxy layer, squeeze the juice. Place the nettles and water into a large saucepan and bring to the boil, boil for 15 minutes. (This may be done in batches if you do not have a large enough saucepan.) Strain the liquid into a large container with the lemon rind and juice and cream of tartar, stir well. Allow to cool to about 21°C (70°F), remove a little of the liquid and mix with the yeast, stir the yeast mixture into the liquid. Cover the container with a clean cloth (ensuring that the cloth cannot come into contact with the liquid) and secure with string or elastic. Leave in a warm place 21°C (70°F) for 3 days. Strain the liquid into strong bottles and cork. Secure the corks with wire, leaving a little play (for possible expansion) Store the bottle in a cool dark place. If the corks begin to rise, release the wire slightly and re-secure. The beer should be ready to drink after one week. its 'hic good stuff ![]() Morecambe did have two Victorian piers but we have lost both one to fire the other to a fierce storm .The rock shop is still there where you can watch rock being made wound round rotating arms and slapped down on a marble slab ---------------------------------------- [Edit 4 times, last edit by densnaps at Jun 18, 2011 5:28:32 PM] |

Evening all
I had a good day yesterday, despite the fact that it rained non-stop from shortly after I left the house. Clearly, they still like a proper wedding reception down in Sussex with around 50 people sitting down for the breakfast and, as my sister as the bride is only a little over a couple of years younger than me, you can guess the average age. But, I suppose when you've lived in the same village since you left home and played bowls for the county you have a much larger range of contacts than I, having moved around a bit, have ever accumulated. We have another cousins meeting in September and I'm the only one not still living in Sussex. |

That sounds an enjoyable gathering Ivan as at most weddings one attends at our age are inevitably for younger folks But its good to get together with family who you haven't seen for some years
----------------------------------------Maybe you were able to make conversation with out shouting over the music. Although the Gay Gordon's can cause some excitement ![]() I am thinking that you didn't stop over for the worm charming then ![]() |

@ old sage - I nicked your "Friends Without Faces" and posted it in our Base Camp Forum. I hope you don't mind. It just touched something deep inside me - and expressed many things I have wondered about regarding my internet communication habits. I have a hard time getting into my mind that my "virtual friends" mean as much to me as my "real friends" of which I'm making some now.
@ densnaps - you have still not told me about you and Norway .... Love your photos. Yes Morecombe Bay looks attractive. Isn't the tide a problem when swimming? Oh, I did go to Yorkshire once in 1971- to a glassworks (could the name be Rockwell?) in Doncaster - that subcontracted for the one I worked for in Denmark at the time - and the people I met were kind, polite and came across as perfectly normal ... but I had a funny episode with the driver they sent for me at the Leeds-Bradford Airport. I didn't know they would spoil me like this, and, understandably, his mind was set on the idea that I should be a mature man - so he decided I was not there. I hired a taxi to my hotel and waited for him in the morning. Was he surprised when I was the one he should pick up! You have embarked on what must be termed "a healthy meal". Big bird and many children's heads .... Didn't know you ate those! I thought only our socalled extreme right wing political party "Dansk Folkeparti" ate babies - they eat them for breakfast, tho' Your stuff is so interesting that I'm a little sorry that I don't understand all of it. I shall never be able to, being a foreigner. I used to be an anglophile, then I had a neutral period, only to begin being one again ... The Morecomb picture fooled me by at first glimpse to look quite a bit like the Main Train Station in Copenhagen. Now I see it's quite different Københavns Hovedbanegård |

Cs2g[/img] Your more than welcome to use the poem, I'm sure the Poet would be pleased to know that his poetry has reached out and touched someone. There are many truths in the poem and I felt it summed up exactly how it is when socialising on the world-wide web I am fortunate in having many friends both from my service life and from work, I have a good social life, meeting at least three times a year with my service comrades, and at the end of every month with my former work colleagues. The internet has provided me with a social network for contacting lost friends and the World Community Org has put me in touch with caring wonderful people like yourself!. We may never meet and our lives may be very different but we share a wonderful planet and a common goal, that we care. The Edwardians are a mixed lively bunch, each having thier own Idea of how things should be!, we don't always agree with one another but that is how a healthy democracy should work. Ted, our (leader) is my brother by birth but I look upon you all as my brothers and sisters, indeed if we could trace our ancestry back far enough, we probably are! I have a wonderful caring family too, three daughters and five grandchildren make sure that I don't vegatate. Keep smiling, keep posting.......... ![]() Old Sage ![]() |

Oh, Ted and you are brothers. How nice.
Since he's the Edwardians' leader, I guess you have to obey him to some degree ![]() Glad to learn you have a healthy social life. I'm about to create one myself in the real world to supplement the one I have in the virtual world and which I shall always enjoy. We shall meet if I ever make it to York, I hope. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
