Looks like the interest in GPU crunching is spreading. The Milkyway project appears to be working on it.

I expect that this trend is being seen by WCG management and that we will see support for GPU processing right here. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for it. My kids just talked me out of putting my Play Station 3 (used as a blu-ray player) into crunching. I think they were more worried that they couldn't play games when they visit than the ability of it to stand up to 24/7 100% processing -- lol.

I just got this Play Station 3. As I said, I bought it because I wanted a Blu-Ray player for my entertainment center and the PS3 is priced about the same as the stand-alone players. My sons hooked it up for me yesterday and today I have been playing around setting up a media server. My quad has 3 500 Gigabyte drives internally as well as 1 Terabyte on a Raid 1 drive array (2-1 Tb drives), so it was elected to be the server. I am trying out software which will allow me to rip my DVD's onto my hard drives as AVI files. If it all works out, my crunching will take a hit for a while as I rip my DVD's to disk. Having a media server is really cool, though.

If you bought an aftermarket warranty for it, then why not run it full-bore 24/7 till smoke pours out of it? That was my theory with my oced 8800GT with 100+ mhz improvement on clock speed and 100 mhz on memory. But then again, my 8800GT massively failed when the coolant fan destroyed itself. Now I keep it cool with a 120mm fan that pushes 130 cubic feet of air per minute. ROFL!
