Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Good morning MOT. Still cool and cloudy here. smile

I finished two more AQUA's (80K). Some observations:

You must be using version 3.19
You must be using nVidia 185.85 or better
BOINC 6.6.xx or better
Slower cards are performing better than faster ones
Standard clocking works better than OC'ed cards
Runtime is now 50-80 hours

If the stars continue to align ... tomorrow and Monday will be BIG days (fingers crossed)

coffee

Yeah, I think my 260 GTX is less efficient for this work. After I finish the four AQUA wu's I dled, I'm going back to GPU Grid.

Grrr.... All of my AUQA wu's have been blowing up as well. I had one running on my 275 for three days and it blew up. My son's 260 hasn't completed one yet!
Right now I have 2 more 3.17 Aqua's left. I might just blow them away and let it get the 3.19 wu's...

Unless they are just a few hours away from completion, it's probably better to blow them away. It's painful to do it though. The 3.19 are running fine so far and better at factory clocking. Alpha testing is fun, eh? laughing biggrin laughing I must say AQUA is quick to find the errors and fix them. smile

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

I'm surprised no one has resuscitated the Intel i7 discussion yet, so I'll apply the virtual defibrillator to the patient. biggrin For those not following the announcements, the i7-940 and i7-965 have been replaced by the slightly faster, slightly improved i7-950 and i7-975 at the same price points (or should I say the same overpriced points). I'd like to see a corresponding price drop for the i7-920, but I haven't yet ... or maybe there's a i7-930 waiting in the wings at the same price. Bottom line is the 920 is still, by far, the best price / performance value i7.

It'll be interesting to see where the upcoming i5 is priced when the parts are available in late August / early September (depending on which dates you trust more).

@Dr. Mike ... if you can keep waiting until September to see how things shake out, that might be the best decision. If you don't want to wait - and that's certainly understandable, the recommendation to go with an i7-920 still stands. If you can find a deal on a i7-940 (say USD 50 over the cost over a 920), it might be worth it. The fact that it's being discontinued really isn't a problem, but it remains to be seen if there will be any real discounting on what has definitely been an overpriced product.

Been busy so I haven't been around much.
i7 is just dead... i5 is going to replace them. Intel hasn't made up it's mind though.. they keep saying we're keeping high end i7. Then they said they're getting 920, now they say they're replacing all i7 with i5....
