Man... i wish we had more advertising for the grid... i mean i do my part in telling all my friends about the grid but i don't think that that many people get getting the message.
We also need to make a nicer home page which convinces people as some of the responses Ive gotten from people are along the lines of: I don't want someone else using my computer for their own gain or something else.... a really good way in my opinion would be to have a high quality graphics mode in which the molecules what are being folded etc are rendered in higher quality and with more colors for a better eye candy effect. That way it could be for lack of a better word advertised as a great screen saver which saves lives too.. |

The members, well, WCG through its IBM reps beats the drum incessantly and word of mouth via partners is powerful... what you do at work many take home to and tell friends and infect  the own home computer(s) too. Member growth has been strong, particularly since HFCC/FLU/HCMD2 launches. The cumulative monthly numbers since October 2008:F 08/10/31 410446 Z 08/11/30 414506 W 08/12/31 421972 S 09/01/31 427242 S 09/02/28 430735 T 09/03/31 436371 D 09/04/30 442002 Z 09/05/31 450087 Z 09/06/23 460048 < almost 10,000 new entries! Visit this chart as it updates periodically... and eye candy eats serious CPU time. Ive also had people ask about the potential for the grid to become a massive virus transmitter. If the servers were to get infected with a virus what would happen? What kind of security precautions are there? Its a major concern among some people.

Hello Nick,
I just want to tell you another way how to get new members. Just give the word solar power into Google or any ogher search machine. You will get websites of various institutions that have to do with solar power. On their websites, you can find their e mails Send them a mail and tell them, that there is the clean energy project on World Community Grid. You should also explain to them in the mail, how grid computing works. You can do the same with the word cancer or AIDS. Tell as many owners of websites, that WCC exists. Ask them for an answer, if they have decided to install BOINC or not Alll the best to you Martin |

And if you do all this advertising effort make sure you mention WCG with a G for Grid, and not WCC, otherwise they might be confused...

There are a handful of really good YouTubes that present the WCG message, sad that there aren't more. Here are a few I've collected on BOINCstats: World Community Grid I would like to see the WCG subprojects produce a status report and upload it to YouTube. . . with 9 of them, one a month wouldn't seem like a problem.  |

What WCG should do is get someone from the HCMD project on the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon to talk about WCG. I know the project is done by the French MDA, but they (I assume) share somewhat common goals.
----------------------------------------I read somewhere that telethon is watched by around 40 million people each year. If 1% of those joined, that would be ~400,000 new crunchers. Has this ever been done? Being one of the 260 million non-viewers, I wouldn't know.  |
