Re: anyone else seeing these kinds of errors? I'm getting tons of them.

I started running these WU again after having taken them off for some time, thought I'd tidy up the badges somewhat. ;)
The problem still persists though, but I have gotten a new line in the messages;
Output file nb967_00083_14_0 for task nb967_00083_14 absent

Is there a problem with not downloading all necessary data?

Tomorrow morning, it's 3am here atm, I'll try fiddling with the settings to see if I can do something with the client.

When I started this project I too got tons of errors. I run devices with Core I7 CPU's 9xx series socket 1366, and Win7 64 bit. It seems that there is problem here that was never solved. I was using by then Boinc 32 bit version. I changed to the 64bit version of Boinc 6.10.18 since but have not tested again this project and see if this improve things. You should try.
Nevertheless after checking the issue there is no harm done in terms of lost work. These WU's that have very short cpu time (in seconds) before they stop do really last extremely short. So you get no points but they do not stay crunching.
After a few days the number of errors went down and settled to a few per day. Except one device identical to others which produced still many more but for no apparent reason.
So I contributed to HPFP2 until gold and then switched project.

Re: anyone else seeing these kinds of errors? I'm getting tons of them.

How about a machine on a dual-core Intel, running Win7 32-bit? That machine just ran 10 WUs straight as errored out.
I've set it to only using one core to see if it makes any difference.

But sure, I can test running different versions of the Boinc-client as well. Gonna try that on my i7 920 if it doesn't stabilize.

Interestingly enough, my old single-core AMD PC is not reporting any errors so far. It might be because it doesn't run enough WUs to have caught one it doesn't agree with, or the error only occurs on multi-core machines.

Re: anyone else seeing these kinds of errors? I'm getting tons of them.

Runs OK on my Vista32 and on my XP32 but not so good on my Vista64. I have not tried Win7 yet so have nothing to offer.

I have switched around just about everything I can to try and get this working in the past but gave up because I could not get consistant good results except as noted above. Turned off AV, set permissions so any account has full control (yes, I have scince switched these two areas back), different BOINC Manger versions.

@Hyper ... You running with 6 GB RAM?

@ YuukunoAmaya ...
How much RAM in your dual-core?
What OS and how much RAM on the single core?

Re: anyone else seeing these kinds of errors? I'm getting tons of them.

On the devices devoted uniquely to WCG I have 6GB DDR3 1600MHZ RAM. On the devices which are also for personal use I have 12 GB DDR3 2000MHZ RAM.
But the larges number of errors came from a 6GB 1600 machine.

I'm currently running HPF2 on an AMD Athlon II X2 235e Processor running at 2.70GHz with 6GB RAM and 64-bit Windows 7.

So far, no problems. Life is good! biggrin

BTW: I'm running BOINC 6.10.18 if that makes a difference.

Re: anyone else seeing these kinds of errors? I'm getting tons of them.

I'm running 3 machines.

The old desktop.
AMD 64-bit 3700+
1.5GB RAM if memory serves
Win XP 64-bit
Boinc 6.2.28?
So far, so good.

The laptop
Intel T4200 dual-core 2GHz
3GB RAM
Win7 32-bit Home
Boinc 6.10.18
Close to 90% failrate atm, seems to be somewhat better after I updated to the latest version of Boinc. It does no difference if I run one or both cores from what I've noticed, more tests to follow.

The new desktop
Intel i7 920
6GB RAM
Win7 64-bit Pro
Boinc 6.10.18
Much fewer errors after having updated to the latest version of Boinc, but they still appear. So far it seems more stable when I run 4 of 8 cores as well. More tests will be done over the next few days.

The old desktop acts as a cruncher and a server for lighter programs, it's mostly left alone and I rarely connect a screen to it.
The laptop is used at university and for looking things up when I'm in fullscreen on the new desktop.
The new desktop is my playground and workstation. It's used for almost everything, from gaming to movies to Word-documents.
All are set to run 100% of the time.

Edits:
Just sat down to count the WUs on my new desktop. In last 9h it has failed 20WU and managed to start 7 properly, ie. failure rate of about 75%. It has been running 4 of 8 cores the entire time. I'll let it continue running that way for the rest of the day to see if the numbers change. 8 of the failures came in a row for one core, which sounds too much like a fluke.

The laptop has 22 failures in that time, and only 3 starting properly. That's a horrible 87% failure rate. It has run both cores th entire time. It took about 40min for the laptop to be able to start new tasks after the last ones were done. It's time for it to get new tasks in about 4h, so I'll get more data then.

The old single-core desktop is happily crunching away without errors so far.

Edit2: I've seen one error in the last 10h now, on the new desktop. It makes all this seem very haphazard. Only thing out of the ordinary is a WU that has been running for 16h. But I'm letting that one live it's own life.

Edit3: Another 34h have passed.
The old single-core desktop is happily crunching away.

The laptop has gotten 7 errors and has successfully started 11 tasks, totalling at 29 vs 16.

The new desktop has had 49 errors (one of which was a time-out) and 26 successful, totalling at 69 vs 43.
It has, however, experienced a very odd crash again. I can move my mouse pointer, but nothing else. This has only happened during the time I've run this project. The crash occured as I was editing this post.
I will change the desktops setting so it runs all cores, to see if I get any difference in the statistics.

Re: anyone else seeing these kinds of errors? I'm getting tons of them.

I'm not getting "tons" of these, but thought I'd put my collected data on the pile in case they help.

AV is microsoft security essentials, and I just now added
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\
to the Excluded files & locations on the Settings tab, but this machine (Win7 Ultimate RC 32-bit) has been running just the HPF2 task for quite some time now and this is the first error I've noticed for that task. I've been setting it up for fedora 12 (the RC starts shutting down every 2 hours in May I think), but not quite ready to move the BOINC process yet.

While Win7RC apparently doesn't expire before in June, it will start shutting-down in a month, 01.03.2010, so you should finalize the transition to Linux within a month.

As for HPF2... atleast my experience is that you can run error-free for some time before getting a string of errors... for so running more or less error-free again...

The reasons for the errors is yet unknown, and the only sure way to fix this problem seems to be to disable HPF2...

I was thinking May, but perhaps I was cueing on the M and it is March instead, as you said.
I misremembered, as a former President might put it. wink

Anyway, I seem to recall having that problem with HCMD2 on vista and 7 ...
It happens with more than just the HCMD2 task on vista/7?
Or, am I misremembering that, also? tongue

So, I'll continue plodding along towards fc12... I want to image its partitions first, since I've heard there were problems with GParted (my preferred partition tool) and ext4, so I've been procrastinating waiting for updates... that way, the worst-case scenario would be blowing it all away, making new partitions, then restoring the image(s).

edit1: I preview it, and still miss stuff. [grin]
