Re: BOINC credits vs WGC

With a TDP of 294w per card, thats a total 8.526Kw an hour on the gpus alone and it will be higher of he overclock. I can only assume his farm consumes 15kw or more per hour if he overclocked both cpus and gpus since he also crunch with his cpus. Damn, including his other appliances in the house, he must be spending almost $2000 a month on electricity alone.

The 5970 is a dual-gpu-card, meaning it will show-up like 2 GPU's, just like a dual-core-cpu will show-up like 2 cpu's in BOINC.

So, if he'd been running 5970, it would be max 14 of these.

But, atleast going by his posts, it seems he's running 5850 and 5870-cards, having 2 cards/computer, except for the i7 that's got 3x 5870-cards.

Also, his computers is using either 650W or 750W PSU, except for the 3x-5870-rig that's got a 950W, so it's impossible to use 700-800W per computer. wink

Re: BOINC credits vs WGC

The 5870 has a TDP of 188w while the 5850 has 151w. So even if all his cards are 5850, his power consumption on his computers alone is still x8 of my household. If he only do cpu crunching, he ca easily support more than x3 of his current hosts and current power consumption.

With only 2 amd quad, 4 amd dual, 1 intel dual celery, 1 amd single and 5 gpus; I wouldn't dare dream to be on the boinc combined top 500 since even if somebody gave me machines I still cant afford the power bills.

He became #1 because he is willing to spend on his crunching.

Wrong, this last winter my Bill's were in the $700-$800 Range from about Oct 2009 to April 2010. That's gone up to about $1100 during the Hotter weather now but that's because of the Central Air Running.

I do have 29 58xx Series Cards running, right now if you look at my Computers at Collatz you will even see 37 Cards's running because somebody Attached their Computers with 58xx Cards to my account during the Collatz Challenge and I'll Pay him back once the Challenge is over ... It's good to have Friend's ... wink

Re: BOINC credits vs WGC

I noticed the server was down for maintenance earlier today and AQUA@Home has recently updated their BOINC server software that has the new credit system (although they're not using it). Did WCG update to this new version? :)

Re: BOINC credits vs WGC

Hit Update in your client. If it says version 601 it would be a No, and it still is

21/07/2010 21:43:06 | World Community Grid | [sched_op_debug] Server version 601

Saw that the various supported languages were synched up today, which must have caused brief service interruption. Tomorrow the server Linux OSses are updated. See http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,29385

Seventh Serenity,

Sekerob is correct. The BOINC server software has not been updated. You may have seen a breif outage when we released the updated translations.

Re: BOINC credits vs WGC

Points should be rigidly set by Boinc, and anyone that starts to grant more credit should not be allowed to use Boinc. The present situation negates the credibility of Boinc and those that use it.

And this would be helpful to the Projects how? To mandate that your project be exactly the same as my project is not how we get more Boinc projects on line and working. Sure your way will work, if we all wanted to crunch looking for little green men, but we don't all want to do that, at least not anymore. To give a guideline, which is what is done now, is the best way of ensuring many Boinc projects for many years to come. Some projects want the 'credibility' of having the most users, therefore they must grant more credits than a project that gets users thru their Scientific research. Some projects just cannot handle millions of people coming to them, so they grant fewer credits and keep their base small and manageable. Boinc is kind of like you and I, different but still both human.
Mikey159b, It would be helpful if projects awarded points equally as it would encourage people to crunch according to what they think is important, rather than what brings the most points. Not sure how your little green men come into it? I dont waste electric crunching crazy or meaningless projects, no matter how many points they give!

BOINC credits vs WGC - Should the title not have WCG in it?
- apparently not.
