Congratulations everyone on some fine crunching.
----------------------------------------![]() Never got a WU on any ot the intermitent projects. I have them selected in my device profiles since several months ago, but no luck. ![]() Any special thing I should do to get work? Thanks Ccandido, there are a lot of explanations on how to get jobs for this project including step-by-step directions, in past posts, most likely in this thread. When you *think* there will be rain, put a day or so of regular WUs in your computers queues so they have something to work on, then deselect eveything except the intermittant projects. Then bump up the queue size a bit (don't get greedy) and your computer will start asking for just those projects. Of course you have to refresh your client after each setting change. If you have multiple computers, a manager like BoincTasks is a great help. I have only 3 computers (2 dual core, 1 quad core) and have managed to get ruby and I am halfway to emerald. It is possible without a giant task vaccum. I did the above 1 day before the recent rain cloud passed by. I got exactly 1 job per core. Over the years it slowly adds up. ![]() Cheers ![]() ![]() |

If you have multiple computers, a manager like BoincTasks is a great help. Whenever I hear there may be a shower, I make all my BOINC projects get into :No New Tasks mode. My queue size is normally 0.25 days. I then set it to 9.25 days. World Community Grid is set to do only two projects: Clean Energy and DDDT2. Clean Energy is set up to supply only one work unit at a time, so I now have three idle 3.06 GHz processors. So my computer asks for WCG tasks quite often, but is always refused. When there is no rain, I allow all my BOINC projects to get new tasks, but with a 0.25 day queue. ![]() |

I think one can get the same frequent-ask behavior with Clean Energy set to 4 (or 5) work units at a time. That avoids the idle processors. When the rain is over, one could be shameless and abort any unwanted WU that haven't yet run.
If not, please enlighten. |

Thanks NixChix, Jean-David Beyer, and Harriscott
----------------------------------------I guess I'll have to keep connected to the DDDT2 forum and try to catch the next showers, and do as suggested. ![]() ![]() |

With the recent shower of type B WU's end of may, we may expect a little steady rain fall of type C WU's fairly soon. I only need 30 or so days to finaly get to saphire. I would say "Crunchers, Get Your Rigs Ready"

I need 7 days just to get a bronze. My rig has been ready for over a week now and I get nothing except for one Clean Energy at a time. So I should ask for DDDT2 as often as BOINC will do it. Most recently at 10AM today. I have two or four Xeon 3.6 GHz processors (depending on how you count them: two hyperthreaded chips), and 8 GBytes of RAM and almost 14GBytes of disk space, so I think I can run A, B, or C units. In the entire history of this project, I have gotten 14 work units for 7 days of processing. So three processors are just sitting there idle.

The reason that you are not getting any WU is because there are none to get, ie: nada, zippo, zilch, squat, zero. You might wait hours, days or weeks; we don't know. It seems a shame to leave 3 cores idle when you could be working on a badge for one of the other projects, but it is your choice.
The fact that dddt2 is INTERMITTENT and has be noted to be so at least 100 times in these fora is speaking directly to you. For further proof, read the last paragraph: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/dddt2/overview.do I had a search through your previous posts on this subject. I guess after you post questions you don't read the replies. Maybe this time. While I mean this in the nicest of ways, you might also look up the meaning of the word "intermittent". All will be revealed. |

I guess after you post questions you don't read the replies. Actually, I do read the replies and I do know the meaning of intermittent. My problem is not when I get no work when no work is available. My problem is when people are posting they have sapphire level and are going for the next, and that they get many work units when there is a "shower" and yet I still get none. I have been accepting work units since DDDT-1 days and never had trouble getting work units for that phase. But for Phase 2, only 14 work units (7 days) the whole time. And when there seem to be showers, I turn off all my other BOINC projects, and allow only one Clean Energy WCG work unit to run at a time, so my machine remains essentially idle. I have another machine that runs other BOINC stuff because it is too small to run either Clean Energy or DDDT2. (only 512 Meg RAM and only two 550 MHz Pentium III processors). ![]() |

And when there seem to be showers, I turn off all my other BOINC projects, and allow only one Clean Energy WCG work unit to run at a time, so my machine remains essentially idle. To avoid the idle cores, you could usually maintain a small cache, say 0.75 day, of other WCG sciences, perhaps even allowing more than one CEP2 unit; then when showers are announced, deselect all but DDDT2 in your device profile and increase the cache, say 1.5 days. Check the machine every 0.5 day; if no DDDT2 have yet appeared and so the cache is low, temporarily set the cache back to 0.75 day and select other sciences to fill it back up again; then repeat the DDDT2-only bit.If you can check the machine less often or more often, then you should choose other numbers for the cache sizes to suit. |
