BIG BANG THEORY: In the beginning there was nothing - which exploded...

And nothing was everything too! Singularities will give you a headache faster than temporal mechanics. wink

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 42 smilesmile

looks like turning everything off and thus re-setting the router has worked.. sorry about that everyone..

Dr. Mike..
You've got nothing to be sorry about smile smile We all understand equipment failures.

By the way did you get any DDDT2 WUs this time around or was your router out of commission all of yesterday? I got 30+ WUs on Friday, which is only about one day's worth. sad Unfortunately, they've dried up again except the occasional repair WU. crying The road to bronze has been long an difficult.......

- D

Yea, they don't have a steady supply of type C's but when they do, it must be a sizable batch. While I got a bunch too, they all run real short - no more than 1.5 hours.

Yeah -- it's that time again. Good Morning coffee coffee coffee

Morning all. I'll be up early and going to bed late these next three days. My thesis is due on Wednesday. If there's interest, let me know and I'll post some of it.

Good luck tomorrow Jonathan! When's your defense?

Good Morning Dave.. :) Good Morning MOT... :)
<snip>

Something interesting I noticed.. I've got quite a few HCC work units that are less than 3 hours.. different..

Dr. Mike..

The HCC application has been updated and it now runs in about half the time it used to.

- D

Hmm, wonder if the technique could be applied t HFCC too? Different research group but still.....

They didn't have much in the way of specifics. I wonder if this change has de-motivated them from a possible GPU implementation, since the end date may move up a couple of years. There was talk for a brief period about a HCC GPU version.

HFCC has been going the other way for me lately ... taking longer to run. I remembered you had mentioned that as well.

I just got bronze for DDDT2. biggrin
<-------
Next up is probably ruby for HFCC. Some way or another, this is progress.

My HFCC times have been all over the place though they do tend to "clump" - the long ones come together as do the short ones. At least when a long one takes 2-3 times as long as a short one, I get 2-3 times the credit too. I've read some of Sek's explanations - whether one runs long seems to result from that WU finding more possibilities to consider and there's no predicting that for a given WU. I just keep crunching them.

Congrats on the DDDT2 bronze! I think we'll be seeing more of those. I think folks are getting more of those now that the type C's are hitting. I know our results returned numbers have jumped noticably. I'm about 3/4ths of the way to silver on DDDT2 and need about another seven months of run time on HFCC to get sapphire there.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 42 smilesmile

Here is my thesis paragraph. I will post the whole paper by wednesday evening.

Working Title:
god Is Not Great: An Analysis of Classical Theist Theodicies

In this paper, I aim to clear the field of theodicies (proposed solutions to the “problem of suffering”) that defend the God of Classical Theism (the view that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and perfect). To that end, we will consider three theodicies that attempt to square the existence of an omnipotent, omniscient, and perfect God, with the profligate existence of evil. The first two perspectives are “Biblical” views, in that they find their sources in the Bible. The first argues that those who are suffering deserve their suffering, hence, if one is suffering, one need only search for one’s sin. The second, on the other hand, argues that God does not cause people to suffer, that on the contrary, God wants the best for people (and prioritizes the needs of the poor), but sometimes, God must allow undeserved suffering to exist. The third and final view we will consider is John Hick’s "Vale of Soul-Making" Theodicy, which argues rather uniquely that the alleged conflict between the God of Classical Theism and the world of suffering is predicated upon a misinterpretation of God’s plan for humanity. In each section, we will take up one of these proposed answers, develop it fully, and assess to what extent it is successful. Finally, by way of conclusion, I will discuss how Humanists justify meaning and value in a world without God and sketch a Humanist approach to the problem of suffering that I hope will demonstrate the fact that we do not need God in order to understand and cope with human suffering.

All I can say so far is.. wow.. I'm seriously going to have to get out my dictionary and get smarter... very nice so far Jonathan..
