Re: Clean Energy Project - Phase 2's Recognition Thread

I'm leaving tomorrow night for a 9 days vacation... And I won't have (and also I'm not unhappy about this) internet access during this time...

So, my question: Would someone be so kind, and announce by bronze and silver badge here in this thread during my absence...??? cool

Thanx in advance, you can find me here during that time: 54° 55′ N, 8° 18′ E

So long,

Totto

That's a long way from home. Have fun!

Do you mean something like "Congrats totto73", so you know when it/they arrived?

P.S. My silver will arrive tonight. biggrin

Congrats to your silver!
Tonight I got brown just in time. Silver has to wait until the monthly Simap run is over...

Thanks and congrats to you. It's good to see more badges around.

Good deal. That's a good way to bridge the gap to the windows/mac release.

Even though I know enough to be dangerous with linux, I still prefer windows.

Yeah, put me in a Linux catamaran and I tend to sail a bit too close to the rocks; scared of the deap water!

trying to keep up with Uplinger is not going to be easy by the looks of it. I see he has found gold already!!! smile

I was thinking the same thing.
It also looks it's not going to be easy to keep up with you!
He must have 100 threads going. I've only got 22. How many do you have?

I think we are at 52 Linux cores with another 5 running in VBox

Re: Clean Energy Project - Phase 2's Recognition Thread

I'm glad to see a few guys venturing out to try Linux for this project. I prefer it for my crunchers as it seems to run with less problems and goes forever between reboots. When I have a machine with Linux lock up it usually means check the hardware for me. I do look forward to a Clean Energy Project 2 windows client for the few boxes I haven't put Linux on. My Ubuntu 10.4 install doesn't seem to run as well inside Windows XP and temps me to put a dual boot on it so I have windows available for the few tasks I have left for it.

edit for vbox Ubuntu

It turns out my issues were related to a failing memory stick. I guess running 2 operating systems with a total of 11 work units is to much for it or I got a bad batch of memory.

My biggest headache is remote access. I have had absolutely no luck trying to get any flavor of VNC to work with hours of frustration. RDP is soooo easy.
Another thing that is a sticking point for me is wireless on headless machines. I haven't been able to figure out how get it to connect without logging in and I'm tiring of moving the monitor/keyboard/mouse around the house.

Re: Clean Energy Project - Phase 2's Recognition Thread

I've had good luck using Ubuntu and tight VNC to access Ubuntu. I mostly use Ubuntu on my laptop to access everything on my network, except the Windows Vista machines.

I also have boincview running on a Windows XP machine that works well for me to keep track of how everything is doing.
