The upload/download values in the client state are continuously updated based on actual measurement, so manipulating wont get you far and looses you progress and time while doing this. Hmmm, so what is a solution here. I mean, I'm running a 6MBit line with a rate of nearly 700kB/s... And boinc or linux wants to tell me, that I don't even habe 128kB/s... ![]() Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? ![]() Yesterday, I also had this happen on a new machine. I downloaded a few HCCs to get a good speed measurement and haven't had any trouble since. |

Even if were are going off-topic, but this will cause many members problems, especially when the windows version will be distributet...
I have in one location four pc's, which are sharing a 1MBit line. If only two of them are requesting work at the same time, the speed is going below 128kB/s on each pc. IMHO, this "feature" (or call it "bug" ![]() |

It's up to the project managers to decide if they have enough threads to allow the flow to bog down... remember there are 650,000-700,000 tasks daily to send out. Already the data flow arrangement for CEP2 is completely different because of data volumes.

OK, back to topic... I have (for now) two more questions:
1. I have now installed Ubuntu together with Windows on a Notebook. Works fine, but how can I configure the Ubuntu boot-manager? I would like to set Windows as default, and also reduce the time for "boot selected partiton" down to 3 seconds. I need this settings for my gf, because I know, she is not amused, when she switches on the notebook, and it does not work like it did before... ![]() 2. Is there a free anti-virus software for Ubuntu with "Windows Comfort" (like automatic updates, scan on open-file, etc.). If yes, how do I get this installed, and what do I have to look for when I configure it... Many thanks for all help in advance!!! ![]() |

1.
----------------------------------------open terminal sudo gedit /etc/grub.conf<enter> change default=0 to default=# for windows entry (count "title" lines starting at 0) change timeout=## to timeout=3 save and quit 2. If you're only going to be running Boinc, I wouldn't worry about it. |

Based on your question, I thought you were using the linux boot manager and it was defaulting to linux.
----------------------------------------I guess I should have asked this question: Are you using the linux boot manager or windows? If you're using linux as your boot manager, you need to boot into linux and follow those steps. sudo is what gives you the admin rights. It's to prevent accidental damage. |

Hi pirogue,
Ubuntu did not ask me, which boot manager I would like to use. The system is now using the linux boot manager, but the file you mentioned is not existing... And how can I, using the "sudo", add a link "/home/totto/BOINC" to the folder "/etc/init.d" to start boinc when booting...? ![]() Thanks again, I am really happy, to get support...!!! |
