BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a World Community Grid client...

Hi!

I receive this error all the time. And question if I want to try to connect again, then the same error again and again...

I have Windows 7 32bit with Zone Alarm. I allowed internet connection in Zone Alarm for the Boinc application. My Windows firewall is turned off.

How can I fix it?

Hi unis,

have you already attached your Boinc client to your WCG account?
You can find this option in the advanced view menu "Tools".

If it's a firewall issue, check out your logs and try temporarily disabling it.

Also, please provide any screen shots of pop ups you see.

As herna said above, logs will be able to help us figure out what is limiting your connectivity.

Thanks,

Re: BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a World Community Grid client...

I followed forum tips to connect my client to my account:

I want to contribute to one of World Community Grid's research projects. How do I register for a particular research project and start contributing?
Members only need to register and attach once to World Community Grid in order to contribute to any, or all, of our research projects. In order to contribute, please take the following steps:

1. Register with World Community Grid
2. Select which of our research projects you wish to contribute to:
1. The registration process gives you a list of research projects to choose from
2. If you are already registered, you may change which projects you contribute to on your My Projects page
3. If you do not already have BOINC installed download and install the software
4. If you already have a version of BOINC installed more recent than version 5.4, then you may participate in World Community Grid using your existing BOINC software. Just attach to World Community Grid using the url: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org and using the member name and password you created in step 1 above.

but I can't set my name, only password - what's wrong??? Is the forum manual old and not match current client version?

When I enter above url and my password, I just get information that connection failed and if I want to try again?

I also tried to set "localhost" as host name:

Then I see in the bottom of main window information "connecting to localhost" and after a while.... well known "connection failed" window.

Firewall is turned off. Windows firewall is also turned off.

What's wrong?

Hi,

Here's a wiki for installing on Vista, which should be no different for Windows 7 or XP:

http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Installation_walkthrough_%28Vista%29

If you have installed the software, in Advanced View http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/BOINC_Manager on the Tools menu there's an Attach to Project ... option. If you go there and select WCG it asks if an existing member... say Yes. Then it asks for Member name and password.

Re: BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a World Community Grid client...

I reinstalled my BOINC software according the the walkthough on wiki. It's still not working.

When I click Tools -> Add project or account manager, popup appears with information that "World Comunity Grid - BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a WCG client.
Please use the "Advanced/Select Computer..." menu option to connect up to a WCG client. To connect up to your local computer please use localhost as the host name"

But when I try to connect to http:www.worldcom.... or to localhost it always fails.

Re: BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a World Community Grid client...

hmmm, can you please navigate to the BOINC Data_dir in explorer (could be hidden). Probably it is C:\ProgramData\BOINC

When there see if a cc_config.xml file exists. If so, rename it to cc_config.old and then restart the computer.

If it works now, I know who's the probable culprit. The person is aware ;>)

I have no access to this directory. I tried to take ownership and also change permission - didn't succeed.

Perhaps this access denied issue is a problem? How to fix it?

Well that's weird assuming that you are the rightful person for this machine.

Suggest to uninstall and reinstall 6.10.58, making sure the "all users" is selected (see screenshot: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q210/Seker...61045InstallerScreens.png ). That should set the permissions right. Possibly starting the installer and optioning the "repair" fixes this, but would not set the "all users" if that was not originally selected.

When you uninstall and go to reinstall try right clicking on the install .exe and select run as administrator. Make sure ZA is disabled before you install.
