I'm never so sure about disabling security software during application installation. Presuming they are in learning mode allowing the user to tell ZA and the like to remember a decision, that's what you might want to ensure this happens when there and not absent.
----------------------------------------Thoughts?

Presuming they are in learning mode allowing the user to tell ZA and the like to remember a decision, that's what you might want to ensure this happens when there and not absent. Thoughts? If he is not comfortable disabling ZA during the install then I would recommend disconnecting from the internet while ZA is disabled, do the install and then reconnect. ZA, Norton and other programs that offer protection suites are far more trouble than they are worth, especially if your network is behind a router. How many times have we seen complaints about this or that AV deleting WUs or blocking connections? On my loan XP box I disable the built in firewall and use an old version of Sygate because it gives me warnings about connections in both directions. Light weight and a snap to configure. I use that in conjunction with MSSE. On my Win7 boxes I use the built in firewall because it is light weight and easily configured. I also use MSSE on them. All of this is JMHO and it works well for me. ![]()

v.v. RE-installation work for BOINC, it's always best practice to go off-line, specially if one wants to ensure the data_dir content is preserved "as-is" and not accidentally create another device.

I uninstalled BOINC software.
I installed it again with: - running as administrator - selecting two options (allow controlling by all users and run in special mode) - changing data folder from \programdata to other And guess what? Installation finished, manager started and everything went automaticaly... it's working and calculating now :) Thanks guys for help! |
