Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.33

On the same system and after I changed the profile, Boinc later told me bandwidth was too slow, (106Kbps only and 130Kbps needed, or similar). The system has several Mbps download, but then thats to UK servers and takes no account of hops/ping/contention/error rate...

Remarkably similar numbers to what I'm seeing, and my home system can easily stream HD video which requires 3000kbps.

Maybe it's because we're in the UK? devilish
No... I see the same problem in the US. The BOINC client says the measured speed on my systems changes randomly between values up to 300KBps and all the way down to 80KBps. (Note that there's KBps (bytes per second) and Kbps (bits per second)). So most of the time, it says my bandwidth is sufficient. Sometimes not. Double devilish and one skull

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.33

my DL is fine and it thinks my upload is too.
I was playing a game online and my system slowed to almost
a stop... I checked BOINC and paused it, no effect.
Went to another computer and it was trying to upload the
beta test. Bandwidth hog. But I can handle one WU per
2 or maybe 3 machines doesn't lag that anyone notices while
running them. Will take about 8 months for sapphire, gives
me something to watch :)
Oh where do i go to check my bandwidth as measured by BOINC?

Well, whilst I slept, my machine managed to pick up a repair Beta WU... So far, so good (just shy of 6 hrs into it at ~ 50%, with a difference between elapsed and actual of 11 mins, and on the 14th checkpoint).

It's not even one of mine! smile

A shame it didn't make it to job 4, so we could see if the RC=0x4 bug has been fixed.

It's not a bug (was it ever to be confirmed as being one?), thus it could still be a feature ;>)

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.33

Wouldn't it be a good idea to exclude slow machines, who can't even finish Job #2 on time?
Such a task should be repeated including Job #2, I suppose.
All the time the slow machine was crunching on Job #2 is wasted.
From the 12 hours runtime it is about 11 hours.
After Job #2 9 shorter jobs are following, so a machine should reach at least 1 of these shorter jobs within 12 hours.

Job # 0 0.4%
Job # 1 1.3%
Job # 2 25.8%
Job # 3 1.4%
Job # 4 0.9%
Job # 5 1.0%
Job # 6 0.9%
Job # 7 1.2%
Job # 8 0.8%
Job # 9 1.0%
Job #10 2.6%
Job #11 1.2%
Job #12 7.8%
Job #13 16.6%
Job #14 15.1%
Job #15 22.0%

Other machines are excluded because of bandwidth, memory, diskspace etcetera.

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.33

Can't remember if any such control can be set in an automated manner (benchmark e.g. but we know they're often optimistic), but if one sets Memory RAM limits of 1GB, you kind of already filter out the slowest CPUs. Hmmm, think the "memory" limits as specified include VM?
