Re: Morning Update

I've added a cheeky little uATX system to the fleet - it'll be an HTPC and a living room gaming machine on the big telly and surround system when Elite: Dangerous comes out next year. But for now, it's a cruncher.

It's built mainly from spare parts - an old case, motherboard, power supply and memory. The motherboard was initially in my main machine, but when I added two GPUs I swapped it for a full size ATX - wanted a bit of a gap between the two cards. I did have to splash out on a CPU though - now have a second 3770k, so should be up to 20 RT/CD.

Re: Morning Update

My RT might be down for a few days as I work out a linux problem. I installed Ubuntu as my main OS replacing windows last night, it installed alright, but when I load the OS it doesn't initializes/support/detect (what ever it is, I have no idea) any of USB 2/3 ports. My mouse or any of the USB drives are not 'turned on' when I insert them into the port. which makes the computer essentially useless until I can try a few more hopefully newer version of linux and find one that initializes/supports/detects the USB ports.

Such a pain.

Re: Project Mix

FA@H now accounts for 80% of WCG output! nerd

I finished the last of my cached DSFL WUs, so bar a few CEP2 WUs I'm 100% FA@H. I've had some FAHV WUs finish between 15-35 minutes looks like a very very fast new method.

I think it's real plus to have a project with such small WUs smile Not so much for the 'phones important though they be, but for the 'part-time' crunchers whose machines are only on for a few hours every few days,

@ crooks_UK I would think these would be well suited to your 'crunch when idle' machines?

Good evening all,

Checking in from North Wales. A beautiful part of the world.

Will be leaving to return home tomorrow and will be switching back on a few machines. Hoping that the new work units are much shorter in runtime as I am having quite a few time out on me.

A few questions...

- Which version of Ubuntu is it? Even as far back as 10.04 LTS (which I'm running on my work-laptop), USB ports just worked without any hassle.

- Have a look through the output of "sudo lshw | less" (or just "lshw | less" as the root-user), see what it says about the USB controllers (there should be a few entries).

- What output does "lsusb" give, when at least one USB-device is plugged in?

- What USB-specific output does "hwinfo --short" give? You may need to install hwinfo first, it potentially doesn't come installed as a default.

Thanks for the interest Thargor but I found this ubuntu forum thread and this is exactly what is happening to me so I will try some of the fixes suggested in there. If I can't get it to work you can count of me pestering people everywhere to help me biggrin

Re: Morning Update

Yep, it fixed the problems with both my USB and Net work ports. Computer is now up and running and crunching again.
