Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Somewhere in my youth or childhood.....No doubt!rose

From Sound of Music to Westside Story

Could be!
Who knows?
There's something due any day;
I will know right away,
Soon as it shows.
It may come cannonballing down through the sky,
Gleam in its eye,
Bright as a rose!
Who knows?

Something's Coming

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

A noiseless, patient spider,
I mark’d, where, on a little promontory, it stood, isolated;
Mark’d how, to explore the vacant, vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself;
Ever unreeling them—ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you, O my Soul, where you stand,
Surrounded, surrounded, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing,—seeking the spheres, to connect them;
Till the bridge you will need, be form’d—till the ductile anchor hold;
Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.

Walt Whitman

Great find, Neil!

The spider waits to catch something and spin his web.
Unconnected, lonely, yet hopefully patient.
This poem has much depth. I like it a lot.
Using the spider as a metaphor for a very human emotion
is both creative and relatable. Whitman spun his tale very
well!

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Despairing cries float ceaselessly toward me, day and night, The sad voice of Death--the call of my nearest lover, putting forth, alarmed, uncertain, "This sea I am quickly to sail, come tell me, Come tell me where I am speeding--tell me my destination." 2 I understand your anguish, but I cannot help you, I approach, hear, behold--the sad mouth, the look out of the eyes, your mute inquiry, "Whither I go from the bed I now recline on, come tell me;" Old age, alarmed, uncertain--A young woman's voice appealing to me, for comfort, A young man's voice, "Shall I not escape?"

Don't be a Tree, just stuck in one place
Don't be the Sea only heard from a shell.
Don't be that Pea who's left in the pod.
Be a Bee and fly
or
Be a Fly and be

I am profoundly saddened to say there was a sudden devastating loss
in my family and I will need time to deal with my grief.

I hope you will continue on with this thread in my absence. sad
