Re: "The survivors"

I was reading some of the forum threads to see if there was any indication of why Sekerob left WCG.
It appears it is due to the massive website changes that were made without coordination with volunteer website scrapers and data collectors.

The website changes broke a lot of the data collection being done.
The amount of work needed to correct this is overwhelming for those volunteers.
In most cases it requires major rewrites of their code.
It requires a lot of time and work.
This leaves volunteer programmers unsure when more changes will happen.
Makes it very difficult to maintain their programs.
In frustration some programs have been abandoned.

I believe that this issue also explains why WCGDAWS has not been fixed.

Myself, I depend a lot on the volunteer programs so it is a big loss for me.

Re: "The survivors"

Milestones Today
RCC_Survivor passes 17,000,000 BOINC Credits

Honestly, I can't tell the difference.
Was using the stats but now blindly crunching on autopilot.

Re: "The survivors"

Can't do screen scraping it is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I don't suppose any of the programs broke with the new web site design will ever work again.

Re: "The survivors"

I was hoping that a new GPU project would start this year.
I don't read all of the forums because of the time required and therefore do not know of any new projects.
MCM is running on 5 PCs and FAAH on 2 Androids.
Unless WCG screws up something it is uneventful and entirely hands-off crunching.

I'm in great shape for the condition I am in!

Still crunching on autopilot.

Re: "The survivors"

Getting by in spite of the new website.

Don't think WCGDAWS and other web scrapers will ever work again.

What a shame that the new website design did NOT take this into consideration.

The new logo/icon is supposed to represent two people embracing; if they didn't tell me I would not have guessed it in 100 years.

Re: "The survivors"

Still crunching MCM.

I would like to see a GPU version of MCM.

The only problem with GPU is if you are running BOINC as a service; BOINC cannot access the GPU.

I don't run BOINC as a service because I can't find a valid reason to do so.
