Is it normal for a new member to go from say number 545,000 upon joining to say 400,000 in just three days in run time ranking?
![]() I have generated over 30k points and 50 results as well in three days. So is this a normal advancement for a new member or is my new pc I got like two months ago a beast ![]() If anyone wants I will post the specs of my machine and let you guys be the judge. |

Yes it is possible. Perhaps your new machine is a beast, but at an average of 10,000 points per day I think not. Boincstats lists 358158 users for WCG on their site. User #358158 has .059 points which equals .413 WCG points. In order to get up to 30,000 WCG points you would have about 4,285.7 Boinc points, about position 226257. So to go from zero to 30, 000 WCG points would give a rise of 131,901 positions in Boincstats. (Yes, I did not factor in the "other" points, but you get the drift).
----------------------------------------Please do post the specs. They are always interesting. Cheers

I assume that the total members includes retired and non-active members as well...
----------------------------------------There's probably thousands of members who signed up for WCG, then decided it wasn't for them for whatever reason and quit participating shortly after singing up Just my guess, but maybe others can chime in here The higher you get in ranking, the harder and harder it will be to increase your rank, if that makes sense ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ryan222h at Sep 30, 2011 2:06:12 AM] |

There is a difference in the number of users that WCG lists in the statistics and that site you quoted. True if there were a lot non active, retired members any new active member would make leaps and bounds over. But still a 100,000 in three days seems a bit over the top to me.
As for specs 6 gigs of ram in a 3 x 2 triple channel memory DDR3 1600 mhz Kingston HyperX can be upgraded to 24 gigs in a 6 x 4 config. 500gb Sata hard drive (will probably upgrade this down the line can put two or four hard drives in the pc. If I want to put a bigger power supply in there I will be limited to two internal hard drives) Raidmax Aeolous case with six 120 mm fans. Incredibly quiet fans as well. Motherboard is a gigabyte g1 guerrilla motherboard. Xtremegear 700 watt power supply. Graphics card is an ATI radeon hd 5450 512 ddr2 pci-e Looking to upgrade that next year but need to figure out if I want two video cards in a sli/crossfire config or three video cards. If I do three cards that can be made to work with each other in sli or crossfire config one of the cards will run at x16 while the other two run at x8. If i just do two cards they both will run at x16. Been out of the loop on video cards for so long I don't know which config will be better. Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Cpu is cooled by an Asetek 510LC 120 mm watercooler system. The cpu is an Intel i7-950 3.06 ghz 8m lga 1366. Haven't turned on the motherboards onboard overclocking yet since I want to upgrade the videocards before I do that. The one I got in there just has a heat sink. Other assorted odds and ends that don't do anything really to contribute to processing power. All told buying it cost me a little over a grand and well with all the freebies I got and three year limited warranty it cost me a little under what it would have cost to buy everything piece by piece. Depending upon the deals from the custom pc maker it can be several hundred bucks cheaper to buy from them then buying everything separate. Plus you get a lot of custom upgrade options. Well is my rig good or bad? |

Hey d, is that Birmingham in England? If so, and you're not already in a team, how about joining the UK team where they would really appreciate the contribution of that impressive rig of yours!

No sorry Birmingham, Alabama.
I also managed to jump a few hundred places due to some pendings going to valid. Still have a full page of pendings to go through. |

Just haven't done the profile yet.
The place I got mine from is having one of their sales promotions going on so if anyone wants a beast of a desktop or laptop with icore 7 processor or AMD they can get one configured to their needs. Plus they sell configurable business pcs and lan servers. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/LandingPages/megaspecial/FallGamingSales2011/ Lots of people like them and they are usually pretty good at fixing any issue you may have by sending you the parts. Even if you don't get the professional wiring job it's actually better quality then what you find in most brick and mortar store pcs. Sorry if this sounds like an ad but it has been years since I felt satisfied with what I bought pc wise from a store. Always felt like I got ripped off months later but not this time. |

Dear D from Birmingham in Alabama
The first few days of ascent are quite fast. It was my experience too. . Later you hit the standard cumulative frequency curve. Climb will be slower as you go up and up. Of course your machine specifications are very impressive so you are able to make fast progress too. Good luck Computing Gopal |
