Well, this is a science application which at present only runs on CPUs, not GPUs. Most of the software actually has to be rewritten such that it also works for GPUs (which is a major undertaking) and we did not have the manpower to attack it.

Love, there are currently NO projects using GPUs on WCG. That might, MAYBE, change in the near future (and then only on one project, not this one) but for now that's just how it is.

I am all for GPU crunching but...
I think CEP2 might not be a good candidate for GPU. I can just imagine trying to upload one of those Monster files every 10 minutes or so ! You would have to have one heck of a fast internet connection to keep up. In my opinion Proteome Folding would be the logical choice for GPU. They take so long to run and the uploads are small. And it seems to be an open-ended science that can go on for years to come. Maybe HCC will have GPU soon but they already run so fast I wonder how many of those jobs will run each day ? A BUNCH... And I think HCC is not open-ended. Unless they come up with HCC2 , HCC3 , etc... |

Past answers by cleanenergy (a multiperson posting account) on GPU employment:
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...=0&sort=1&rows=20 With this round "... we did not have the manpower... " and previous posts, enough room for speculation to keep the GPU aficionados going for a little 31MB result (present file size) and the 10 minutes [who knows], fiber optics will be needed, or then a retraction from the web. Hundreds of uniform cards in a rack would probably offset to big saving on ISP costs and end all the worries of non-homogeneous results. --//-- |

Love_, as many as you want - although with it being an 'opt-in' project (for several reasons, two of which are the huge file uploads and the lengthy space between checkpoints), you have to personally alter the default value of 1 in the Device Profiles section on your My Grid page.

Hi Love_,
you can also check out the link in the footer about custom settings which we recommend for CEP2. Best wishes Your Harvard CEP team |
