What happened at bitcoin that you left? Never really checked into that but from what I have read, a new type of gpu crunching came along for it but at a higher start up.

I have my 6850 machines running Diablominer while I have my 7950 running HCC on my 7950. Shouldn't be anything new with GPU crunching, bitcoin miners have been using OpenCL since 2010, same as CUDA miners. CUDA and NVIDIA notoriously sucks at bitcoin mining, so badly that it is not profitable, NVIDIA owners are likely paying more in electrical costs than they earn in bitcoins. GPUs will be obsolete in mining due to bitforce bitcoin mining FPGAs. A plan on getting one of those $150 Bitforce Jalapeno's. It has a hash rate of 4.5 GHash/s at I assume around 40 watts or less, which is a lot better than my 7950 which could only get 580MHash/s with a heavy 1200MHz overclock. As the bitcoin network gets larger and larger, it gets harder to mine coins unless you strategically upgrade along with everyone else, or outgun others with clusters of GPUs, or FPGAs. However, a single 7950 did a fine job earning coins for me while I was mining with it, I was earning 9 bitcoins a month until I joined here. People are rather fanatic about building clusters of mining rigs for bitcoins. There are many places where you can buy stuff with your bitcoins, like bitcoinstore.com btcbuy.info bitmit.net. You can find out statistics about the bitcoin network and the worth of the bitcoin at bitcoinwatch.com, similarly mtgox is the major bitcoin trading site, it should look remniscent of a stock market, but it's very easy to use. Bitinstant is a good place to easily transfer your current currency into bitcoins. At the beginning of this year the bitcoin was worth $3, but it has steadily rose to where it is now, 10-11$. As much as people try to give bitcoin a bad name, say it will never succeed, or call it a ponzi scheme, bitcoins have been getting more and more popular over the years. That current network speed of 306 PFLOPS is a good testimate to how dedicated people are to it. It would be nice if they would direct some of their machines over here though.

WoW 306 PFlops. This is equivalent to the sum of the peak power of the first 20 Supercomputers in the Top 500 list. It is incredible how the lure of money does motivate people.
----------------------------------------At WCG we reach barely 1 PFlops. But here we earn no dollars, just hoping to contribute to a better world. ![]() |

7950 in with 7870. Currently running 16 HCC1s (8 per). Doing well for playing together and temps. Using MSI Afterburner for fans and OC's. Will let run til morning and see what it does.
May move to 24 HCC1s then. |

mmstick, thanks for the shopping/trading links.
----------------------------------------I don't want to go OT, but once these GPUs dry up, I think I am really going to consider a spell of bitmining as a worthwhile proposition. ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

As a quick update, we have just launched a quick batch of 2 images per workunit out into the wild as a quick test. There is about 18 hours more of 1 image per workunit jobs left and then all new jobs will contain 2 images per workunit. That's why I'm seeing a pause at 49.707% now and the WU times double! ![]() |

Yes, and it's encouraging to see checkpoints lower than elapsed time again!

Singular, there's only 1 checkpoint, for the GPU version that is.

Just checked and less than enthused. Granted the Pending "Q" has gone up massively, but just 99k on 16 WCC1's with a new 7950 added versus 93K with just the 7870. Only a bit less than a day and little time to tinker.... but will this weekend :)

Hi
I Have just returned to WCG. I am really liking that GPU can be used, is there a step by step guide to set up my gpu does not idle. not to sure how to do it. Thanks Datahelp |
