I know how you are about which stat is the best stat, but the a post from viktors made me think -
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...thread=3398&offset=23 is the average time run for a result can be altered, then not all results are equal... also explains why the grid ones were longer ![]() sorry - didn't notice previous couple of posts - please lock at your pleasure [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 30, 2005 12:53:23 AM] |

vaio, I ave just read your post in the "protein folding update thread. I responded to it there, however reaslised, that it was under the wrong topic, so I have reposted here. I hope you don't mind.
Actually, the last unit I did took 3 days on a 2 ghz rig.......and returned a grand total of ZERO points ..I'm a bit slow in reacting - sorry I have experienced a similar problem and worked on it with viktors (Tech support at wcg). I was crunching, transfering the data and ending up with zero points. This went on for about two months and the most confusing thing is that sometimes my work units were ranked, while at other times, I got zeeeeero. Viktors monitored data comming from my PC and we discovered that the data was reaching the servers. On receipt of the data, the servers do a data integrity check. If they find errors in the data during the integrity test, then they fail the unit and you got no points (no info on this either - unfortunately). ![]() I got some harware tests running for a couple of days and it turned out that the AMD processor I was using had some intermintent floating point errors - which even though the processor was working and the BIOS not reporting any problems, the errors were messing the data up producing rubish and hence the WUs were being thrown out. I am not stating that this is your problem, however what is important to know is that if WUs do not pass the integrity test on receipt, they end up in the bin-of-bins! (i.e. the greater half of bin laden - lol) |
