I'm starting a new thread, because a previous, related thread degraded into yet another discussion about hardware and BOINC settings.
In the past, completed work units validated very quickly. In a lot of cases, when a work unit was reported, it almost instantly showed up as validated. However, I am seeing a significant delay in validation of completed work units (presently 4 hours). I know there were server/performance problems last week. Is this a permanent situation, is there a problem that still needs to be addressed, or will the system eventually catch up? Thanks! |

the "Known issues" thread seems relevant ...always a good place to start, regardless - especially since 2-3 weeks hasn't passed since knreed noted a need for more memory.
Daggone...I just made this thread degrade into a hardware discussion. |

Any hope that any new thread will not do that? It's one reliable constant on our forums ;>)
Yes we [me] knows, the validators seem to run about a 4.5 hours behind on a slider... not catching up, not loosing ground. |

On topic, my logger shows a substantial pickup of pace... just 1.5 hours behind now i.e. 3 hours advanced on the backlog.

I've updated the degraded database thread with details of how we will be managing things in order to keep work steadily flowing to the volunteers and also so that we can get database backups completed.

Other thread knreed mentioned 3 weeks. It's a game of patience and endurance... don't expect anything to happen on time and it can only be better than hoped for.
----------------------------------------edit: My PVal/PVer are now all up to date... none that could not be validated [CEP2/C4CW]. Imagine that HCC has the hardest time to catch up at 1 million results per day. The other science validators deal with 100K results per day. I don't normally pay attention to this stuff, but since I've installed wcgdaws, I figured I would have a look. I seem to have been hovering around 15k pending valididation wu's all day - plus or minus about 1k. So it seems like the servers are keeping up at least - yes? No?

No? Yes? Likely! The production stats numbers [that what is validated] suggest that systems are running nominal for HCC inclusive. There will though be daily spurts, so don't be surprised if your HCC WCGDAWS PV totals spike at times. (Please don't run too often... 15,000 being data pulled for and checked is surely generating load on the DB)
