Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

for VAIO...from an article in a decent linux newbie magazine...

"The biggest issue preventing Linux from taking over the desktop is not lack of availability of application programs[note WCG will run on linux shortly], hardware requirements or anything technical. The biggest obstacle is fear". cool

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

Biggest obstacle surely is quite simply the corporate desktop monopoly.
Who has time to retrain squillions of secretaries/office workers etc???

Linux is, and the forseeable future shall remain, the enthusiasts domain.
Puts away crystal ball.

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

and all the time you are thinking I'd know where this is in Control Panel

We've all got countless years of Windows Time in the bank you don't realise just how much until you fire up Red Hat shock

especially if you remember Xtree Gold and DOS - Oh the joys of disk spanning.

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

lol...it's making it's way around, anyone here that's happy about shelling out a hundred bucks each time they get a computer for a piece of software only so they can be compatible with everyone else, say i. tongue and now those who can dare to be different since nearly everything with the exception of games can work just as well in linux...

bah, people just need to open their eyes. biggrin i kinda wonder if there's a distro out there working on making things similar to windows, so that those willing to give it a chance won't be hit too hard by the differences.

dave...that's exactly what the article talks about. smile it's a bit of a learning curve, but with the exception of when i have a random need to play certain games, i've been happy with linux. paragraph 2 of the article... "The funny thing is that it tends to be the more knowledgeable of people who have this fear. That is, those who consider themselves Windows Power Users are more likely to be afraid of Linux then a relative newcomer to computing."
