Re: 10 days of new work remaining for GFAM

Is the end near? The last WU that I received (GFAM_ x2VAG_ B_ hCLK1_ w7WATs_ 0114582_ 0244) was at 8:26 am (CT) today, which was over 12 hours ago. Also, I have noticed that yesterday we crunched over 91 years and today we have crunched only 121 hours during the first 2 hours of the day (extrapolating, it should be something like 3.8 days):

Statistics Date........Total Run Time.........Points Generated.........Results Returned
06/01/2013..............0:121:07:45:01........488,914......................647
05/31/2013............91:260:11:32:48........134,162,350................179,729

I'm still 22 days away from emerald, but I think that I can still make it (at least I'm trying like hell biggrin).

Just look again at the 'last updated' time stamp of that page, and you'll know how much was validated up to that point in the day. It's what's referred to as 'nightly spill', after the 00:06 UTC stats have run. Interestingly, WCG continues to export the individual stats in BOINC format every 6 hours... maybe one day we get My Grid live stats same as what's shown in the client, refreshed after each server connect, but then since it's quasi live in the client project view showing cumulative for member and host, no real need.

After 2 days of inflation drought [The projected times are still 60% over real on me Linux], the duo decided to fetch a few copies in the last few hours of _0 and back to 114xxx. Originals. Strictly speaking with what clients have in cache total is 0.28 days over target, but then it's those projected completion times that so darn off.

Re: 10 days of new work remaining for GFAM

I have reached my goal of Gold by just over two days 0:092:13:51:59. Best of luck Jack 007 and to all others who are chasing goals. I returned 1 work unit this morning since I did not need the run time.

I think that I have enough in the buffer to make it to emerald. I'm still 16 days away from the green badge... should be able to make it in about 3 days. I've already switched over to HPF2 to get the gold one on that project. Lots of luck to the other badge hunters... hope everybody makes their targets.

Re: 10 days of new work remaining for GFAM

Overnight quad and octo received a boatload of tasks with the "PfLAMMER" marker in them, 115xxx batches, and then it stopped again when a _1 came in with the inflated TTC, which inflated the rest... no idea why this is seemingly happening only on repairs and quorum 2 assigned ZR tasks.

If this is the last series and remains serial, we've got about 1-1.5 days left coming from the feeder.

As to PfLAMMER crunching... googled for the interested: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11306117 and something from WikiGenes: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-22570859

How does Buffering Work? confused Taking clue from some message here by CJSL (and others) I too tried to reach a milestone by increasing up my Buffer. I had set it for two days earlier and increased it to 10. I was sent a lot of workunits and initially did not check to see how many were sent.

Now as I look at it, I have no realistic hope of doing them in deadline sad It seems I was sent buffer for 50 more days and not 10 days !! As of now, I have a buffer of 78 & 4 more are getting computed on machine. To be completed in next 53 hours. Not possible on the single laptop I have sad

Of course looks like I will make up my milestone. Thanks to everyone here who indicated buffering as one way of reaching that.

However to improve my understanding appreciate guidance on what should one do to get the numbers that they can actually realistically compute. What is the point of getting 5 times of what you can compute even when my machine runs nearly 24x7?

Best wishes for everyone trying to reach their goals.

Re: <How does Buffering Work > Re: 10 days of new work remaining for GFAM

@ Gopal Sharma

See these FAQ for guidance:

BOINC: Deadlines for Standard & Rush Tasks and What Clients Get These

When Overdue Tasks Are Really Not Worth Completing!

It is not recommended to exceed 7 days of work buffer [WCG recommend maximum 4] if e.g. running the 10 day deadline projects, alone or in a mix, simply because of potential outages, particularly if work is only returned periodically.

It would be helpfel to know what version of BOINC you are running?
