In Other News

I'm not sure that the new system of posting System Alerts as News is going to work any more effectively than posting them as Foruim messages but we shall see. thinking

Case in point:
I was unaware of System maintenance being performed Sunday, 2 March, 2:00 UTC - 8:00 UTC.

posted as News item on 26 Feb, until I received the latest News Digest email.

The News Digest settings only allow a setting of Weekly or Monthly.

So notification of a System Alert as a 'news' item 2 days after it happened is pointless!

Of course it might just be a case of "teaching an old dog (me) new tricks". I must check "News" more often!

Re: In Other News

I received the notification about the maintenance a few days ago in both my desktop notices tab and Android.

@ Falconet & Scribe
I suspect the sendout of weekly/monthly News digests are staggered across 7 days possibly according to when Communications Preferences were first implemented.

I have subsqeuently posted a follow-on:
Known Issues thread retired ?? wink

Maybe. I first got the Notice in Android on February 26th, so, last Wednesday. Then I found it on my PC as well.

Re: In Other News

News items can be subscribed to if you have an RSS feed reader. I use Mozilla Thunderbird for both e-mail and RSS feeds and it works great. I got notification of the maintenance timed at 26/02/2014 14:09.

Having said that, I do think it is very wrong to rely on volunteers using RSS feed readers. The BOINC feature for notices was introduced later than 6.10.58 which is still (I believe) the WCG approved release level, so the assumption should be that that can't be used either (I'm still using 6.10.58 simply because of the WCG approval). That just leaves e-mail, and the delay is unacceptably long for notices of that sort.

Mmmm. Should the techs re-think, at least until the preferred BOINC version changes?

CEP2 shorter WUs?

I recollect reading, but cannot quickly find, a post that said that CEP2 WUs would grow in size for a while and then shrink back to shorter ones. I just noticed that one of my machines has a picked up a WU that is for a C15 molecule, whereas the previous one was for C50. So it looks like the shorter ones are here.
