Re: New Beta Test starting Nov 6, 2013 v7.24 [ Issues Thread ]

The two 7.24's I have running at the moment are perfect and running properly - 16% in 50 mins and 12% in 36 mins.... and putting in checkpoints at safe frequency....more than can be said for the 7.22's - one appeared to have a much longer checkpoint setting at the start (it was over 20 mins to the first), the rest seem to be about 9mins at the start and they are all now checkpointing on that timeframe....

Re: New Beta Test starting Nov 6, 2013 v7.24 [ Issues Thread ]

One of my Beta 7.24 WUs finished fine at a little under 6 hours (versus 13 estimated). I've got one more about 54% done now and it should be done in about 3 hours. This batch of Beta 7.24 WUs all worked pretty well. Don't know if I'll get any more after the one I've got in process finishes. If not it's been an interesting experience going though this beta process for the new cancer project. I'll be looking forward to running them when they get released into production..... biggrin

Re: New Beta Test starting Nov 6, 2013 v7.24 [ Issues Thread ]

Got one of the 7.24. It reached 3hrs 11mins and 88%. Suspend and restart worked fine.
When I closed and restarted the BOINC client (6.10.58 from here), elapsed time dropped to just under 3hrs with 0.5% progress. After approx 3mins progress leapt to 79% and appears to be progressing fine with times and progress % as expected.

This is expected. For each work unit, there is some initialization that occurs at the start of processing. That initialization also occurs when a work unit is restarted but before the checkpoint (and percent complete) is restored. In most cases, this initialization should be relatively quick (only a couple of minutes), but given the wide variation in work unit types, some outlying cases may take a bit longer to restore the percent complete.

Seippel

Ah ok, that's good to know that it is doing what it should.

Re: New Beta Test starting Nov 6, 2013 v7.24 [ Issues Thread ]

I'm letting the 7.21's run as aborting them would merely get them sent on to someone else to crunch.
As opposed to letting them restart on your machine for 2+ days, have the server issue a no reply, then send the WU to another machine to crunch

Point taken. I was coming from the perspective of not having had the endless restart problem on past betas. I was really thinking in terms of "why run 7.21s since they're for an 'old' beta". In my case, aborting them would send them on to another cruncher just delaying their end that much more. Now the 7.19 resends that will hit in a few more days could be a whole different matter, but like I said, the admins can easily resolve that. WCG may be getting things set up for the project production launch but I suspect that they'll have to review the betas and confirm that they have sufficient data to back up their conclusions and that the project is truly ready for "prime time". The fewer betas left hanging out there, the sooner that can happen.

EDIT: Are these guys good or what! biggrin Cancelled Tasks for Beta Tests prior to 7.24

Re: New Beta Test starting Nov 6, 2013 v7.24 [ Issues Thread ]

We were monitoring the previous beta's for evidence of any other issues - however at this point the issues outweigh any further benefit from letting them continue to run.

This current beta continues to run well and we will continue to monitor it.

Hi knreed.

I take it that this run is only for windows again, I didn't see anything anywhere.

Re: New Beta Test starting Nov 6, 2013 v7.24 [ Issues Thread ]

Except from some server issues this "d"-batch was working very well.
I received 55 tasks: atm 40 Valid and 15 Pending Validation (Windows - service install, but also not in protected application mode)

When the new project goes in production an extra information about the irregularity of the checkpoints is appropriate.
As far as I noted the times between checkpoints differ from under 10 minutes to over 2 hours.

Hi all: I can't seem to get any more 7.24 work units - when will the next batch be released?
