No Progress

I was having a problem with one of my tasks in that it had run for 20 hours and the Completion Time was simply getting bigger and bigger, up to 40 hours. This didn't seem at all right so I rebooted the PC and, as there was no change, I decided to remove WCG completely. I then reloaded the WCG software again and started crunching once more.

However, now the Tasks are running as normal but I notice that the Elapsed Time is increasing as expected and the Time To Completion is running down but the Progress remains at 0.000%.

I aborted one task after 10 minutes but find that the next task is the same i.e. no apparent progress.

Is this of any importance? Or is it not progressing at all and am I just wasting my time on these tasks?

Re: No Progress

If you could provide some details as to the type of science you're running (CEP2, MCM, FA@H etc.), then we'd be in a better position to comment.

Re: No Progress

Thanks for the reply. The tasks are all FAHV which have been running without problem before today.

Re: No Progress

Oh, okay - as I haven't been running any FAHV recently, perhaps someone who's got more recent knowledge than I can jump in here.

From what I remember though, FAHV don't take that long to initialise and show progress.

True. Progress usually appears very quickly.

Show us your machine specs, your OS and about the first 40 or so messages in the message tab after your restart. Thanks
Cheers

Re: No Progress

This machine is a Dell but is at least six years old. Intel Pentium 2.4GHz but only 512MB RAM operating on XP. It has worked very well until I downloaded the software again. I think it had been on an older version of the software and is now on 6.10.58. Could this be a cause of the problem? Is it possible to download an older version?

Some lines from the Messages -

Re: No Progress

The Vina program used by FAHV is fast. If it is 20hours plus, just abort it and let other people handle it. Any task can go wrong due to a cosmic ray, etc.

Re: No Progress

More info.

After 4hours 30 mins (I left it running) progress is showing 0.555%. This is similar to what happened before reboot and redownload of the software.

Is it more likely to be the PC itself?

Re: No Progress

Hello nivrip,
Why frustrate yourself so near the new year? Just abort the work unit and let somebody else who never looks at BOINC Manager run it. If the work unit is no good, let the project scientists handle it.
