RT and Keith, thanks for your words. I thought that these were from RT at first, but in scrolling up I saw Keith had written them. The reason I wanted to use a vacuum is the brush attachment has long soft bristles and I am more interested in keeping the large clumps of dust from building up on surfaces and in the fan. I am not too concerned with making the box thoroughly clean.

Oh, and I don't have a garage compressor. Perhaps I could use the blower on the vacuum instead. It is filtered and should be clean enough.

Oh, and I don't have a garage compressor. Perhaps I could use the blower on the vacuum instead. It is filtered and should be clean enough. I suppose so but you do not have a lot of power in a small area like you do with a compressor or with a can of air. You might use a hybrid approach. Vacuum most of it but use a can of air for "pinpoint" cleaning. That canned air is expensive as someone noted so use it only where the vacuum fails to clean. You might vacuum first, use the can on the tough spots and then vacuum again to clean up the loose stuff you blew out with the can. The bristles on the brushes were mentioned before. I suppose that would work but I would be worried about the static electricity that they might carry. That could be fatal to components. I do not really know if this is a problem or not..just never had the nerve or need to try it. Regards to all. |

I agree with RT. I have used a garage air compressor to periodically blow out my systems without a mishap, about once a year. I throttle it down to about 60PSI and hold the fans like he does. I also use an air concentrator(narrow tip) to more precisely direct the air where needed, like through the heatsinks. A 1/2 inch kitchen basting brush works well to help clean off the fan blades. I have never messed with any laptops, just desktops, but I may eventually have to deal with a laptop or two. The laptops are going to be more fragile. Happy cleaning.
