We're having some real winter weather here. While the really bad ice (as much as an inch) is expected south and east of Atlanta, we're looking at about 5-7 inches of sleet and snow with about a tenth of an inch of ice here. The wind will kick up in the daytime as well. If you don't see the team stats posted around the usual time Wednesday night, I've probably lost power. In that case, I'd really appreciate someone grabbing the data for me just to be safe. By Thursday morning, thing should be clearing off and maybe even starting to melt a bit.

Do a copy and the paste that into Notepad and save as a txt file. So far, things are going okay. After what happened a couple of weeks ago, I expected this to get way overhyped. The biggest difference this time is that schools got cancelled so most folks were at home with the kids. Last time, they had school and decided to let out two hours early so everyone hit the road trying to get their kids. Given that same scenario in the future, the same thing would happen. There's no way a "staggered" closing (schools first, businesses then government) would work. Folks aren't about to sit there and wait to leave when the schools are closing. Anyway, the winds are supposed to die down in the next several hours and that's the biggest threat for now. The ground is soaked and there's ice to some degree in the trees so it's a good set up for the wind to take down trees (and power lines). I've been told that for a normal span of electric wire between two poles, each half inch of ice adds 500 pounds to the weight of the line. Not surprisingly, it seems that most electric wire is rated for up to three-eighths of an inch of ice. At least next week is really looking nice! |
