Correction for score inquiry

This was wrong: (Please, somebody tell me the total score of a
119-CPU-score-machine with all other scores to the max...)

Correction: I need the total score of a 134-CPU-score-machine
with all other scores to the max...

Best, Stefan.

Thanks a lot wink

So it's even better than my conservative guess.

The real (measured) total score of my 4 virtual machines was about 118
(3x 118, 1x 119) with a CPU score of 134-135 and a MEM score of 100.

If I lifted the MEM score to 300 for each machine (total of 4 x 1152 MB RAM)
I would see a total score of 168 per virtual machine. Total points was 2070
per 24h for all 4 MEM100-machines and total score gain is proportional to
pints gain. So 4 MEM300-machines would output:

2070 * 168 / 118 = 2947 (points per 24h).

ALMOST 3000 points on a single physical machine!!!

Let's assume 2900 (for 2 CPUs) and let's also assume I had only one
HTT CPU so the max points per 24h would be 1450. Output of the plain
Windows machine was 814 points per 24h (and that already ran some
Windows tasks on the second CPU!).

1450 divided by 814 shows:

A PLUS OF ALMOST 80% (TOTAL POWER ALMOST 180%) FOR USING HTT
BY RUNNING A SECOND CLIENT AND THAT ALREADY INCLUDES THE
OVERHEAD OF EMULATING TWO PCs BY VMWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that doesn't prove the value of HTT for WCG then I don't know...

2900 divided by 814 shows:

A PLUS OF MORE THAN 255% (TOTAL POWER MORE THAN 355%) FOR
USING DUAL HTT CPUs BY RUNNING FOUR CLIENTS AND THAT ALREADY
INCLUDES THE OVERHEAD OF EMULATING TWO PCs BY VMWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

cool

Best, Stefan.

Re: Points formula

Hi Stefan - all that technology. It's great you have caught the crunching bug that bad.

I just keep all 4 of my single core cheapo processors in 4 separate PC cases.
biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

One day one day I'll have a setup like yours - awesome

Re: Points formula

I must jump in to CompuDudes defence of the statement that HT on a Window XP Pro Box does not give 2* the performance as there is only 1 CPU Core in a Pentium 4. The Windows OS is bluffed into thinking there are 2 CPU's in the system by some fancy Intel trickery.

The agent is currently a single threaded app and so you cannot run 2 separate instances under different user accounts using Processor affinity as both agents share the same memory space and the end result is that you get loads of points but no valid research is being done for all your hard work.

You changed the goal posts at some point along the way smile . The OS changed to Linux more able to keep that processor fed with 4!! virtual XP Machines running just WCG and the processor is not the run of the Mill p4 but 2 Xeon's with buckets of on-die cache.

Not really a fair fight wink

It's been good fun though watching from the wings.

rose

I'm back cooking on Gas

Just been collating all the info since I went on my holidays on the 10th September.

Zirith joined us on the 12th

TomWP joined the 6 digit club on the 12th applause

Joost topped the charts on the 13th shock

PioPicone joined us on the 13th

Dan Brinsdon and Laughing66607 joined us on the 17th

Siseberg crashed through a 1/4 Million on the 17th

last but by no means least blueKnight joined us on the 18th

Windflowers posted a cool 1/4 Million on the 19th cool

joshuabayer reached half way to being a Millionaire this morning

The team total has increased in just 10 days by 2,421,466 points!! around 10 years and 344 days of run time added give or take and most importantly 11,683 results back to the WCG

LOL, all in just 10 days!!

I liked -dc's comment "The pay is the same"

The device count for the team (although not real, still makes me laugh) now stands at over 1,700

We had a great day of crunching yesterday one of our top days of crunching since kick off on the 16th November

Right I'm off to get those member pages online
