Re: Must be a big one thinking

that will be huge!! biggrin

i have a 800mhz celeron machine running windoze me that routinely takes over a week to process a work unit. however, i am sure a machine made during this millinium would easily crunch them in less than a day wink

i would just get rid of it, but it is a steady cruncher and gets the job done - eventually. raised eyebrow i think there must be a two week limit on how long a machine is allowed to process a work unit before it is aborted. i know this machine has had three units that ended within two seconds of 14 days. that can not be coincidence.

keep on crunching for the good of the world! biggrin biggrin biggrin

Parmesian --

You are correct. There is a run-time timeout set at two weeks. See the FAQ on this that I posted here.

For those of you who might be waiting for point milestone certificates from Graham, they will be coming. I noticed that he had not been online for several days and I decided to ring him up. He said that he had a major system crash on Tuesday and has been in the process of building a new system. He hopes to be back up and online later today. It sounds like everything that could go wrong for him has (wrong power supply connector, parking ticket, incompatible hardware and more). I will let him explain what all he has gone through when he is back.

What's the deal with our group suddenly not posting much to the forum? confused

surely it can't be a lack of interest in crunching biggrin

if we are to keep our happy family a tight, cohesive, crunching machine, we need to communicate with each other. thinking

i know it seems a little depressing to drop from being consistantly #2 on the daily points list to #5, but look what it took to get us.

it took over 3,300 slashdot members to better our little band. that's a 16 to 1 battle and they produce 3 to 2 victory. wink

it took ibm setting up the wcg on their corporate computers (and nearly 1000 team members to pass us by. cool

it took the same ibm with another team (ibm corporation) of well over 800 members to be better point producers than our little band of 200. d oh

only the crazy kentucky wildcats folding team is producing more points with fewer people, but that can be attributed to one guy in charge of the university computers having nearly 1000 computers under him. shock

let's look at the five right below us today, shall we:

the infamous gang of theives from tribal war raised eyebrow , over 730 strong - distant sixth place. they have nearly 4 people for every one of ours, yet they only produce around 70% of the points.

ibm rochester is our equal in members, but falls short in every other catagory. blushing

applause you do have to give a hand for vaio's jts 2 team applause . they may only be hitting half our output, but they do it with ridiculously small group. shock (way to go guys!) applause applause applause

another group that is equal to us in members is ibm research triangle park (rtp). yet, once again, they don't "bring it" when it comes to crunching. sad

finally, #10 is ibm canada with 150% of our membership but less than 40% of our production. blushing

hugs no team bashing going on here. beat up i'm not putting this here to make light of others contributions or to suggest that these other teams are not good people, trying hard to produce great results for the world. praying i just want our team members to remember that being part of MOT is something to be proud of. laughing

we may not be the biggest. we may not even be the best. but we are now, and always will be, "the best supported international team on the world community grid." biggrin biggrin

let's get to crunching dancing dancing dancing

Re: smile smile smile Join MyOnlineTeam Today! smile smile smile

Hi Guys
I had a £230:00 ATI video card die on Tuesday afternoon
Took it back to the dealer and I was asked to come back on Wednesday morning
I arrived back to find the card was 3 days out of warranty
I asked them for a 60 mil cpu fan, as the one in the machine had a fin missing due to me attempting to clean the fan blades
The heat had made the fins really brittle
They did not have one so they checked on the net and found that a supplier named Maplins smack in the middle of Birmingham City Centre had one, so off I went
To my dismay after spending 20 minutes finding a parking space, I was advised they were out of stock
I went back to dealer that I purchased my system from and they wanted me to pay another £280 for an ATI X800 AGP Video Card
They had no other choice as AGP is being phased out as it is all PCI Express now
I decided to purchase a new Case with a new mobo and an AMD Athlon 64 3400 CPU Kit + a new PCI Express ATI X6200 Video Card for £380
I got home to find that my power supply was a 20 pin male power connector and the new mobo was a 24 pin female power connector
I went back to get a converter cable to find that they had none and was sent back to Maplins again
They were out of stock and it took so long to sort it out I got a £30 ticket as my meter ran out
I went back to my supplier and purchased a new 24 pin power supply
I got home assembled the system and it would not boot as I had been supplied a defective video card
I went and changed it and installed it and started up the pc and attempted to install windows without success due to conflicting hardware
I took everything back as by this time as I was disgusted
I took the Box into a local supplier and asked them to supply an AMD Athlon 64-3400 + mobo + Video card, + power supply
I had already installed the 2 HD's DVD cd rom and 1.44 floppy and supplied them with 2Gigs of memory
I advise them that the master is 80 gig divided into 2 partitions of 40 gig each
The slave was divided into 3 partitions being E: / F: / and G: /
I supplied the Win XP Home with SP2 built in and advised them that I had formatted drive C: / as NTFS and it just required an install of the operating system
I had 5 gigs of data on my 2nd partition being drive D: / and said be careful not to overwrite D: / with anything
2 hours later they call to say it is done and I can come and collect it
I pick it up and take it home, connect it up and start it
I use Explorer to check the partitions and to my dismay I have 1 80 gig drive C: /
The idiot had used on track Disk Manager to format the drive instead of just installing the operating system on drive C: /
5 gigs of data was now history as well my DVD Rom was now drive D:/, my CD Rom was Drive E:/ and my slave was now F:/ G: / and H: /
What idiot puts the DVD Rom and CD Rom between partitions?
All this grief took 4 days to sort out and I am still reinstalling software
I cannot remember having such a multitude of problems dealing with support people
