Mac users are warned not to download pirated software from file-sharing peer-to-peer networks, as ESET researchers have discovered Bitcoin-stealing malware being spread via cracked apps.

The malware, OSX/CoinThief, was first discovered earlier this month by researchers at SecureMac, and was found to steal login credentials related to various Bitcoin-related exchanges and wallet sites via malicious browser add-ons...

It is always about users, not (that) about OS's d oh

OK, OS X and Linux are less vulnerable than Windoze, but they are not 100% tight. They just have more educated and experienced users than W rolling eyes

It's too bad that things like this will set all digital currencies back years most likely. But as long as stuff like this happens, and it will probably continue to happen, people are going to stay away from them like the plague.

One senator has already proposed banning all alt currencies in the US. I don't think that will go anywhere since most people probably see those trading in such things as just getting what they deserved, so it's not like there will be a lot of support for such a law right now. Even the people into bitcoin don't seem to want to see anything like that happen.

But personally I think some sort of regulation will becoming sooner than anyone imagines. I just hope that when it does it's not this sort of draconian, knee-jerk reaction.

Re: Bitcoin-Stealing OS X Trojan Now Masquerading as 'Angry Birds' and Other Popular Mac Apps

(Reuters) - Bitcoin bank Flexcoin said on Tuesday it was closing down after it lost bitcoins worth about $600,000 to a hacker attack.

Flexcoin said in a message posted on its website that all 896 bitcoins stored online were stolen on Sunday.

'As Flexcoin does not have the resources, assets, or otherwise to come back from this loss, we are closing our doors immediately,' the company said.
