I like the new look and this color schemes.
----------------------------------------I have to agree with ashrader330 I have only one problem with the fixed width .Why is not there more variable width in the forum. It was perfect for reading. The new logo is ok but not optimal.ein contest would not have been bad. ![]() ![]() |

I don't understand what you all mean by fixed width.
If you hold the Control-key while turning the mouse-wheel you can zoom in and out, and that changes the width of the forum too. |

I think the new look is great.
It is a lot more enticing to the general public and hopefully WCG will get a lot more people to join. Remember the survey how most all those who participate in WCG have computer skills of one kind or another? This new look resonates a more friendly and simpler atmosphere. Keep up the good work! Thanks to several of you who posted about the width issues with the forum posts. We're looking into it..

The Workunit Status popout is a mess. It has the old logotype and no colour, it's not even the same as it was. [Edit:] The Result Log is the same. Thank you for reporting this! ErikaT Looks to me like the CSS is missing. |

The new design strike me as VERY industrial, not quite harsh but definitely not "soft" like before. No biggie. We'll adjust to that. Usability took a major hit though. Too many places have text in dark backgrounds. Near impossible to read. Either lighten up the backgrounds or use WHITE text instead of black (can you read black on dark gray or dark blue?). Anything you do in the forums is more work now. The new header effectively makes a complete waste of the first screen of anything in the forums as you always have to page down just to get to anything after the header. I understand the intent with the five links but going large font, double spaced vertically is a total waste. Compress big time or better yet, go horizontal. I can at least see with my glasses on but I feel for anyone who's visually challenged to some degree. Good intent, decent execution, understandable need to tweak things after the big change. It clearly was a lot of work.

My guess is that WCG is trying to reformat the site so it works better on mobile devices. That's a nice idea but it's worse than doing nothing if the execution is inconsistent and kludgy - which it virtually has to be given how different various platforms are.
----------------------------------------This wouldn't be an issue if instead of trying to put lipstick on this particular pig, they would at least consider migrating to new software. Any decent commercial forum software will have addons that automatically customize the formatting of the display to the device being used. One only needs to take a look at what vBulletin has to offer here to understand that. But for some reason best known to themselves - since they never really explain their motivations or reasons to us - they would prefer to re-invent the wheel. Over and over again. That might make sense for an emergent issue where you don't have many options, but formatting web pages for mobile is ancient history and someone needs to tell them that the problem has already been solved. Not only that, since commercial software has a much longer track record dealing with this issue, the solutions provided by them are actually going to work. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Mar 27, 2014 6:28:26 AM] |

After viewing different pages with the new design, it seems that the section headers and column headers are a much smaller font. That may not have really changed and it could be just an affect of the much bigger font size for all the data on each page. Normally, they're about the same size and the headers may be bolded to provide visual emphasis/readability. This seems like they're just the opposite. You feel like you're hunting for the headers to understand the data. Then again, it's late and I may just be really tired too.

Oh wow! How'd I miss this! A big but subtle change is the WCG version of BOINC is now 7.2.47! Wonder how many folks are going to be upgrading now?

I like the new look. However, I would have liked to see the stats page and the forum updated as well. I think they use cms' such as mybb for the forum and some other app-plugin for the stats.
These are however boring and out dated. I do however like the new widget. |
