Re: Mapping Cancer Markers project update, July 2014

I am surprised to hear about the idea (implementation) of a GPU porting in this Project.
Is it worth it? Since the project is no longer run as long is (about a maximum of 1.5 years) !

I have no Problem this Projekt to soon as possible to end.

When somebody getting ill perhaps anytime later, he/she will be happy to get these things speeded up ;) so its always worth to accelerate and bypass a year of computing time where scientics can work in the lab one year! earlier ;) how much people dieing in this one saved or better not saved year, cancer can be a huge deamon on eating up your lifetime rapidly :(

And perhaps(?) it will take a phase 2 eventually(?) the gpu code could easily(?) used then.

I have no Problem this Projekt to soon as possible to end.

Sgt.Joe 's latest progress report indicates the first stage of MCM1 will end ~September 2015 at current rate of crunching. The project scientists have already indicated at least anoher three stages with the possibility of more:

Initially, the research will focus on lung and ovarian cancer, followed by prostate, pancreatic and breast cancers. The project is designed to accommodate additional cancers in the future.

Identifying all clinically useful markers would require thousands of patient samples and testing an astronomical number of marker combinations, which would be intractable even on World Community Grid.

No shortage of work anytime soon even if GPU processing beomes a reality.

We hope to see as soon as possible a GPU implementation (possibly in OpenGl) of this project.
We could speed up the current research and expand the project to other type of cancer, to help as much as person we can.
I would like to thank the developers in advance for their effort.

I am looking forward to the next project report.

GGPA [E.R.],

Think you mean OpenCL :)

A GPU application would be pretty good.
