It is those long units which the calculations in BOINC off. IT will adjust itself in a few days. I have had some of the 24+ hour unitsshow 3 to 4 hours left almost for the entire duration of the unit. However the calculation is done for these is wildly inaccurate.

It appears the under-estimates were all in one largish batch of MCM tasks. One task ran slightly past deadline, and things should now settle down. Should be back to normal by 4th October... [phew]

@ Sgt Joe No, with the times bouncing around, the BOINC estimates are ALWAYS off. When they finally catch up to the 9 hour tasks, a number of 2.5 hour tasks will show up and disrupt everything again.

Well, I somewhat agree with you. My point was that the greater the disparity in actual unit length, the greater the disparity will be in the estimating process for upcoming units. On one machine I have units ranging in length from 30+hours to 1/2 hour. Until those disparities get smaller, all of the initial estimates and all of the running estimates bear no resemblance to reality. Should the length of the work units stabilize, I would expect the estimates to become somewhat realistic. I keep a short cache (.5 days) so always have work, but don't get overwhelmed in the case that I get a rash of short units which trigger numerous additional units to be sent which may be much greater in length. Cheers

Yep -- I was being overly optimistic when I said it was just the one batch. After the first task of the next batch went through only 50% over, it has gone back to 20-30x estimate. I may have to abort tasks and shorten the cache again.

10 October. Some mahoosive WUs kicking about. Everyone today has been >5 hours in duration, thats on my i7 desktop
----------------------------------------I've 2 WUs waiting to run, with a guestimate time of >7 & >8 hours respectively. How people cope when they crunch on mobile devices or laptops heaven knows! It's a pity that WUs can't be 'designed' to complete in under 3 hours. I suspect lots of crunchers get fed up, and just abort the longer WUs. ![]() |

What batch is this? Had 35 plus of 8117 that ran 4:39 to 4:42 hours. The 8139 seem to be heading for 5:30.
The time projects of ready to start work is severely borked. The prediction is 3:58 hours for two dozen buffered 8139, which is kind of what the 8090 ran 2 days ago. |

8148 will complete in around 5 hours.
----------------------------------------I have a 7952 resend which is showing 8:12, but like you say, projects of ready to start work is severely borked! 8152 showing 7:37. ![]() |

So? Just leave them be...all is OK!
----------------------------------------Those that won't get calculated, will be deleted by BOINC...it's an automatic process! Go find the next machine to install to... :D |

I have an older CPU (Core 2 Quad) and never saw a WU take more than 4 hours. Maybe caused by compiler differences?
