Re: Is boinc for android lollipop ready?

Getting the 'no-work' now for over half a day, both on ralph (the rosetta alpha test project) and rosetta. Filtering their forums as posted on october 6 by the project developer/scientist:

I agree, android is not yet up-to-par when running Rosetta. There's a 11x performance loss when running the standard abinitio-relax folding protocol on a 96 residue protein sequence, compared to our in house machines. The average float and int ops BOINC cpu benchmark values of active hosts compared to Windows is around 2.4x and 1.7x less, respectively. I'm guessing the rosetta performance loss is mainly from memory bandwidth but we'll have to profile to see what is so slow.

Since android is now skilled to feed back if the pie compliant or pre-4.1 version needs to be send to the host, could be there's the specified to only to go 5.0 and up, but the rosetta and ralph forums are awfully silent on anything happening, that i can find.

Update: Found the apps page, something wcg could do with, where android is listed at https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/apps.php . The puzzle of not receiving work might be in the project selection on the location pages, though creating a pristine new account would assume defaults to allow work through . Am getting 'Rosetta mini is not available for your type of computer' till now.

Re: Is boinc for android lollipop ready?

lavaflow, I believe BOINC for Android uses the Default location settings even if you tell it differently via the project settings. So, you might want to start there. I ran into that issue testing an x86 virtual machine setup at SETI Beta.

David Autumns, my BETA work is failing even on 4.4 and earlier, so I am doubting this is just a v5 issue jut yet...

Re: Is boinc for android lollipop ready?

Getting beta oet1 and fahv work onto the tab, so think more in the direction of neither rosetta or ralph having work at this time. Over there could not find anything that hinted at specifying which science to run. There's just the 'No work for rosetta mini' logged endlessly.

On lollipop, telly savalas must be in heaven up in heaven with this os title. A review is pretty positive, a fast forward done to 5.01 due some bugs like eating battery: The android release we've been waiting for!

Getting any response at all on the matter of a lollipop/pie build from the technicians is starting to look like expecting to see a pig fly. Must have put in under their attention more than half a dozen times, lastly yesterday in a reply to armstrdj enquiring into a reported fail code. Running apk 7.4.31 quite nicely, and that one is ready to take pie compliant sciences on.

Re: Is boinc for android lollipop ready?

We will get a new build out as soon as possible to test on Lollipop.

Thanks,

Re: Is boinc for android lollipop ready?

Just got the latest Boinc from the play store and the app just hangs at the start screen.

Android 5.0.1
Nexus 5
Boinc 7.4.37

Am I doing something wrong or is Android 5 still a problem?

I have the same setup as you and I'm seeing the same problem.
