I always thought that the plural of spouse was spice. That seems to have a certain verisimilitude to it !

It's apparently 170 years laughing

I always enjoy how English is interpreted by foreign language speakers and for those whom English is not their native tongue. I have not seen Hotch Potch, but have always seen it spelled and pronounced as hodge-podge meaning an amalgam of various parts put together to mean more than the sum of its disparate parts in a manner of a Rube Goldberg machine. biggrin

I wouldn't trust free dictionary. It's probably more reliable than Urban Dictionary but I've found inaccuracies on various occasions.

If you want a good overall source that searches every online dictionary, including ones for specialized areas of study, start with onelook . They also have some very useful wildcarding features for use with word puzzles.
