Not a great advert for IBM's technology, if indeed this is what they are using

Just to provide additional data, I did receive prior announcement of the planned outage in my Notices.

I also support large data centers professionally. I can tell you from personal, and painful, experience that, no matter how well you engineer and operate your site, there are events that you do not control that will impact your systems.

Something hopeful, but at the same time worrying:

I just noticed messages saying that two files started and finished downloading. However, while they no longer appear in the Transfers tab, the associated job in the Tasks tab is still shown as 'Downloading'.

Even if I am not working for IBM, I cannot really agree with the above statement.
The reported problem is a typical IT problem occurring in complex (high sophisticated) IT infrastructures. I have a couple of experiences in this area and I did experience bad times.
IBM provides a real sponsoring effort without it, WCG would not exist.
Cheers,
Yves

IBM has done, and is doing, a remarkable job with WCG, and their technology has always been among the best in the world. Any carping is beneath dignity.

It has always been my experience, that when a customer had an outage, IBM would send whatever it took to get it back up and then argue over the cost later and usually it never did cost the customer anything. Unlike other companies, that won't even answer the phone without a services contract. IBM always had our back... Going all the way back to 1974.

The filesystem is recovered and operational. We have enabled uploads, downloads and scheduler requests. Data is flowing in quickly.

Prior to restoring service, we updated the database to reset results that had been incorrectly processed during the outage (and more importantly we have added some scripts to prevent that start up from happening again). Also - we have extended deadlines to account for the delayed availability;.

Re: Scheduled Maint. July 18, 14:00 UTC, extended?

I can confirm that a whole bunch of SCC workunits have uploaded from one of my machines and gone to pending validation. I did notice that the uploads proceeded in pairs rather than in one almighty rush so perhaps there's some pacing going on temporarily? I retried the uploads two minutes before knreed's post so that was good timing biggrin
