What do you have to do to load WP for DOS onto a Win10 machine? My wife would love to have that back.....

A little off topic, but I still use WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS. I upgraded many years ago from WordPerfect 4. It is so much simpler to use for me than Word, mostly because I know the keystrokes and do not have to monkey around with the mouse. Crunch on. Not much off topic measured by my yardstick, capt. Joe. Cheers Well done that you can operate it with keystrokes. I'm hopelessly in love with my mouse. Apart from not being OT, your post was actually informative ![]() - and comforting ![]() |

What do you have to do to load WP for DOS onto a Win10 machine? My wife would love to have that back..... I don't have any machines using Win 10, but you might try an application called DOSbox. I know it runs on Win 7, but I don't know about Win 10. I have a couple of older computers running Win 95 and Win 3.1 which I don't use for crunching, but do use for some really old applications. Hope this helps a little bit. Edit: You can also try vDos . Cheers

Probably the most secured way is to build a small DOS-based virtual machine (e.g. using VirtualBox).
----------------------------------------In this case, you will not have to struggle with any library mismatches since it will be a "pure" DOS machine. Cheers, Yves |

Well, it looks like I am back. I could not get into safe mode, just got a blue screen with some vague (in my opinion) boxes. I followed several paths which didn't get me anywhere. I finally bit the bullet and pressed "RESET PC" and then the option "KEEP PERSONAL FILES". This is supposed to reload windows, remove all other programs but keep my data. I held my breath, not really or I would be dead. Self booted several times, and miracle of miracles, I eventually saw the screen with the photo on it to log in. Log in went well, installed a new BOINC for WCC which downloaded a whole pile of stuff I don't need and then the first tasks started running. About 2 weeks of dead time but I was busy running the rest of my life. I finally got around to spending some "quality time" with the old computer while I was working on another project and am happy. I may eventually get around to loading some of the other stuff on it but that is not so important. ![]() Congratulations! http://bit.ly/VMBug |
